Rattles or no Rattles?

I use rattles in tubes or on jigs when the water is dirty or I want to coax a bass from a distance that I can see in a brush pile or bushes.

I use them in low light like dusk or at sunrise, BAM Fish On!

what about water depths over 35 ft would u consider that a low light condition?

Hi Ryan,

As it pertains to jigs, I almost always use the nun-chuck (spelling?) rattles I buy them from Barlows tackle, but I think TW carries them now too. I specifically like to use them when fishing areas like Silver lake where vis is under a foot. When the bite gets tough down there I like to cast to a bassy looking area, and let the bait soak while moving my rod tip just enough to make my line dance and possiibly make the rattles work a little. You'd be surprised how long you can let it sit and still get bit.

As far as running rattles in deep water I have experimented with it quite a bit and haven't found it to make a difference.

Crankbaits in low light always with rattles. I think for most bodies of water 35 feet is low light, there are exceptions, and Lake Chelan comes to mind.
I like the rattles in low light with my crankbaits because it gives me the confidence that the bass can quickly find and strike my crankbait. What the crankbait looks like can be important but not if the bass can’t find it.
