Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Finally spring is here and I had a chance to hit up a local lake for some pre-spawn dropswim action! I've been looking forward to running the new Panic Minnow 3.5" dropswim bait for a while and had a chance to fish it for a few hours Sunday. I rigged the panic minnow nosehooked on a dropshot with a size 4 hook and a 1/8oz QuickDrop weight with about 10" of line between the hook and weight.

The fish were just starting to move up on beds and my first fish of the day was a chunky 5lb 4oz fish that was milling around on and off of a big bed at the end of a log. Here she is:

Next up was a little 3.5lber that was locked on a bed. She couldn't resist the panic minnow dancing on her bed.

An hour or so later, I caught another nice 4lb fish on the dropswim method that I watched shoot out from under a dock to grab the panic minnow.

The technique was a long cast with a slow retrieve and a shake of the rod tip as I reeled. The fishing wasn't red hot, but the day after the nasty weather we had on Saturday could have resulted in a little tougher conditions. I think that the morning/evening low light bites would have been great or if there was a little more chop on the water throughout the day that may have helped.

The Panic Minnow dropswim bait has a great swimming action, even on a slow reel, also, the rainbow trout color looks great in the water as does the green back/white belly. I look forward to fishing this bait alot in the next few weeks as the fish move up and cruise the shallows. I am sure it will work well as a bed bait also, as does the regular straight tail version.

The only downsides to these would be:

-The tail fouls up and sticks on the side of the bait sometimes. Usually it comes off and swims just fine though once the bait hits the water.

-The baits aren't cheap at $5.99 per pack , but for the great action and finish, well worth it to me.

You can get the new panic swim minnow at Three Rivers Marine, Auburn Sports and Marine or Click Here to order them directly online.

Best of luck with these and thanks Brian for the new release this year!

don't worry Ronald there are some truly great men that don't think outside the box. boxers, presidents, golfers, custom bike builders and bait company owners !

Yeah I here you, I wish I could think out of the box, I am a moron :( Maybe when I grow up, I will be able to think out of the box like some of the guys that post on here.

And I myself have only given good tips and techniques. :-) Some people just can't keep an open mind and can't think 'out of the box'. lol

Yep and it doesn't matter if they are good or bad tips reports or stories.

Yes, this is the type of thread that should happen much more often. Like the first paragraph on the home page says, to help people.

Nice fish Jordan and great write up. I would love to see more of these types of threads on here.
After our club tournament this past weekend on American Lake I couldn't get this one smallmouth to go on a bed. After an hour I switched over to a new panic minnow dropswim bait that resembled a Kokenee, and it was fish on! Another member in our club had a very similar experience!
