Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Going camping with the family next week at a place called fish hook park, and wanted to see if anyone is familiar with bass fishing in this area. Am taking some of the family members and try my luck on some bass but have never fished above the Ice Harbor Dam area. Anyone got any advice?

Jake might be able to help........lets see if he answers the call

I wish I could help!   although i've been up there a fair amount, I've never fished it.   What I've heard about that pool is that big fish are a bit tougher to come by than below the dam.  I've heard you can get into big numbers up there.

Obviously current seams will be a great starting point.  The farther up river you go, the more current there is.  Topwater should be a great way to cover water, and get bigger bites i would think.

I grew up fishing the Snake, Fish Hook is a good "area" in general for fishing, in my opinion the farther upriver you go the better, will you be in a boat? If so what size motor?

Yes, I will be in a boat, 19 foot Stratos with a 150 hp optimax. Trying to put some kids on some fish. I have 2 nephews who i introduce fishing to last year and now they are sprung. Got 3 others who want me to take them as well. By the way how is the cat fishing in this stretch?

REALLY good, i used to do it all day long in the spring and summer while my dad fished for steelhead, if you want cats, find steep shelves around current.Ive found them in all depths this time of year.

Alot of people throw shrimp in the snake for steelhead, so the fish are accustomed to eating all the shrimp that fall off their hooks.

I used to use pink shrimp and bounce it on the bottom, Iv'e even caught them under a bobber.

If your up for it, Lyons Ferry area is really good for cats and smallies...

There are some flats above fish-hook that I have found smallies on during the hot summer days of July/August. I did well with topwaters in the areas, even mid-day. It was years ago, but the areas still should be holding fish. Watch for backwater areas that are along the river as well, some hold good largies. From a bank fishing perspective, I have done ok right there in the marina for smallies and have caught cats and perch from the bank around the park.

The farther you go up river, the better I would say.  I like to fish the rockpiles on the channel markers up above Walker.  Usually some smallies hanging out.  Also look for banks where the current pushes straight up against it.  Top water, Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits.  The weedlines will be parallel to the bank....and both the inside and outside edges will hold fish as well . The rip rap right below fish hook all the way down about 2 miles is a good bank for spinnerbaits or topwater.

Good Luck

Jeff

Cool, Thanks for all the help. Been trying to find maps on this stretch as well but can not seem to locate any. Got one map but does not have Lyons Ferry on it. Where abouts is that locateed on the snake?

Lyons Ferry is off of H. 161, about 5 miles NW of Starbuck, all the way up to Little Goose Dam is a really good

Thanks for all the help guys. Hopefully I can put some kids on some fish and make it fun for all.
Well just got back from camping and the weather was hot as well as the fishing. the kids had a great time and pretty much all caught fish. Fished in the morning but didn't really get anything big just alot of small fish. My buddy caught some 3 and 4 lbrs in the am but nothing big at night. My nephew did catch a 4-5 lb catfish on a grub in the am. Took out about 10 people during the time I was there and all had a great time. Thanks again for all the help.
