I wish I could help! although i've been up there a fair amount, I've never fished it. What I've heard about that pool is that big fish are a bit tougher to come by than below the dam. I've heard you can get into big numbers up there.
Obviously current seams will be a great starting point. The farther up river you go, the more current there is. Topwater should be a great way to cover water, and get bigger bites i would think.
I grew up fishing the Snake, Fish Hook is a good "area" in general for fishing, in my opinion the farther upriver you go the better, will you be in a boat? If so what size motor?
REALLY good, i used to do it all day long in the spring and summer while my dad fished for steelhead, if you want cats, find steep shelves around current.Ive found them in all depths this time of year.
Alot of people throw shrimp in the snake for steelhead, so the fish are accustomed to eating all the shrimp that fall off their hooks.
I used to use pink shrimp and bounce it on the bottom, Iv'e even caught them under a bobber.
If your up for it, Lyons Ferry area is really good for cats and smallies...
The farther you go up river, the better I would say. I like to fish the rockpiles on the channel markers up above Walker. Usually some smallies hanging out. Also look for banks where the current pushes straight up against it. Top water, Spinnerbaits, Crankbaits. The weedlines will be parallel to the bank....and both the inside and outside edges will hold fish as well . The rip rap right below fish hook all the way down about 2 miles is a good bank for spinnerbaits or topwater.
Good Luck
Jeff
Lyons Ferry is off of H. 161, about 5 miles NW of Starbuck, all the way up to Little Goose Dam is a really good
