I like my Quantum Catalyst, im not sure if they still produce them though
For a spinning real on a budget, the shimano sedona, around $50, is great. They hold up, are quiet, and the new ones have a large diameter spool for longer cast. The drags are good enough. For the money, they can't be touched. Save the big bucks for better bait casting reals, where money actually buys you a better fishing tool. The difference between a $50 sedona and most $150 spinning reals is trivial. The difference between $100 and $200 baitcast reals is huge.
Mitchel's are great for the $$$ too.

Catalysts and Tour Editions for bass fishing. Stradics and Pfleuger Presidents for everything else. I doubt I will buy anything but Pfleugers from now on. They've held up as good or better than the Stradics. I won't be buying any more Quantums, as imo, they aren't even as close to as smooth as Shimano or Pfleuger.
I agree about the quantums. I think they could be easily converted to coffee grinders with minimum modifications. Plus, I just can't spend hard earned cash on Zebco products.
I have 2 of the Abu Garcia Soron SXs. There just as smooth as the Pfluegers if not better, their drag is amazing as well.
$60 you can pick up a pflueger president. In my opinion the best spinning reel for the money. None of the drags have ever let me down. They last.

Aaron have you ever tried a pflueger president. I bought my dad a sedona, and I threw it for awhile....in my mind it wasnt as good as a president.

Daiwa Exceller is another reel i've had good experiences with.
I haven't used the presidents. I have a preconcieved perception that pfluger makes really crappy fly reals, which has detered me from using them. It may be a great reel. My experience with shimano reals has been nothing but great with the exception of the corsair baitcasting reel about 10 years ago. That was a rare piece of junk made by a normally outstanding company. I will say though, I am not as impressed with the current curado and citica as I was with the older models. The seem sloppier than the previous generation.
Wow, excuse the spelling and grammer. Sometimes typing on the blackberry creates unintended errors. I haven't figured out how to get rid of the buggy spell check yet.
Okuma all the way for spinning.
Sedonas are great reels for the price! The Shimano Sahara is another great option for a budget reel. It is only $20 more and you get a few more bearings and perhaps a slightly better drag and a reel that might hold up for an extra day or two. All of my spinning rods have Saharas on them except for a couple Sedonas. Great reels for the price!
