How do you guys think the Alabama rig will work for smallmouth bass here in Washington?

Ken Golub of Pittsford, NY might change you mind...Golub caught a 19lbs 7oz limit of smallmouth using the Alabama rig...on one cast!!

Im looking forward to putting some TW Swimmers on one...don't forget in Washington we are only allowed three hooks on our A-rig

Dez, I think the ultimate appeal of this rig is that nothing else comes as close as this does to looking like an actual school of baitfish. I don't think you could get that resemblance of a school of baitfish tying 3 baits onto your mainline.  I would imagine the umbrella style of rig makes them swim more naturally.  I have not tried this technique, so I really don't have a clue to what I am talking about.  LOL.  I have however, as I am sure a lot of guys on here have witnessed, a big bunch of schooling smallies on the river that were busting fish.  I wish I would have had this rig to try on those occasions.  I couldn't imagine hooking 3,  5lb+ smallies  on one cast.  I would probably crap myself.

I hear ya Brian and i dont dout that the rig can entice a reaction strike in that situation , My thing is that would Yuske have been able to get the same results by running  3~4 of those same baits on his main line are my thoughts ?

The overall appeal  factor of this rig is the fact that anglers can run Multiple baits right ? Well keep in mind that the bass are reacting too the baits (Not the rig) .

Here in washington , the laws state that we are only able to run 3 hooks on our main line at one time ,So do we really "Need " The A-Rig  in order to get the same results ?

I personly have yet to witness any angler running more than 2 hooks with 2 baits on there main line with there baits of choice , but i find it hard too believe that if an angler wanted to add a 3rd bait that he/she would require one  of these rigs in order to get the same results of the A-rig ...  hmmm

I had a chance to talk to Yusuke (BASS Elite) about this rig, and he and Takahiro Omori have been using it with incredible results. They are fishing in Texas and the fish really react to it when they are "done" reacting to other lures. They will fish thru an area with crankbaits, then slow down and fish it with jigs / plastics and get 1 or 2 fish total. Then they fish right back thru the area and get 7 fish in 7 casts. They are casting them, with 60# braid mainline, and have the 5 baits on them.

Cause people are still searching for the magic bullet.  What's the alternative?  You'd have to actually work at understanding fish.  Naw, too much work.  I'm not even knocking the rig - just the mentality some people have about fishing.  Amazing to me how many guys think the right lure will make them proficient.  Meanwhile, find me a hunter who thinks the secret to success is a bullet or a broadhead.

I really dont get why this rig is gaining sooo much hype , im not so easily sold to be honest !!

This rig may have a new name and few new improvements , however the rig itself has been around for a long time mostly used in saltwater ..

My question to all is what is the advantage of using this rig instead of simply running three baits on my main line at any giving time ? i.e swimbaits , spinnerbaits ,soft plastic

thats my thoughts on the topic !!

Right On Don !!  I agree 100% brother ,  becoming a great angler boils down too Time on Water , Hard work , and the keen ability of making the proper adjustments prior too weigh~in ..

I will never forget the day i fished with a FLW pro for the first time about 10+ years ago , The one thing that stood out like a sore thumb was the fact he relied on some of the most basic lures/baits within his tackle to catch 95% of his fish .

IDK man , just never been a fan of any of the Magic Bullets over my years of bass'n I guess im missing out !! lol

Dez won't fish it cause it will break all his spinning gear. Hey Dez you could look into the F-rig and tie it with your F-knot.

Looking at the one Ken made up for Cris at LOM, they look very interesting.  Watching the tourney on Guntersville, you could see the one guy who's rig lost a couple of arms just absolutely lose confidence in the rig.  Would 5 be better than 3?????  The power of the rig seems to be the bait fish school / ball......

Could the 3 way Wa-rig have the pulling power of the 5 way rig?  I thought about this and figure you could rig up an extra bait without a hook on it to give more power, or put a few spinnerbait blades on it.

I definitely can think of a few places I would throw it here in washington.  Looking forward to playing around with one.

Mark

why not put colorado or willow blades on the other two arms and fish it that way? i just made one in the shop and am going to try it out..

Why not just put 3 with hooks and the others no hooks, why not put 12 arms instead of 5?

Please don't overlook the Alabama Net and the Alabooma Rig.

lmfao !! Tag thats hella funny ,  I would take one of those nets over a lifetime supply of A-rigs  ..haha

Just wait , Im still working out a few corks but my Remote Control Swimbait is gonna be a game changer for sure .We have all witness bass chasing baits , Are you ready for bait thats chases the Bass .OOOOOOO SNAP !!
