Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I've been working on a new package concept for my Wave Away Sonar/GPS Screen Cleaning kit.  We're on the verge of hopefully inking a deal with a big national distributor who has the potential to put our product in thousands of stores nationwide.  I want this new package to be dead on and I would love your input.  Is this something that would catch your eye if it's next to a cash regiser or electronics display at a tackle store?

Thanks...Chris

Hi Chris. Great product and great graphics. Full steam ahead

Hey Chris,

For the last two years, I've worked closely with the major Sporting Goods retailers around the country: Bass Pro Shops, Cabela's, Gander Mountain, Academy, Sportsman's Warehouse, Wholesale Sports, Scheels, Sport Chalet, Big 5, Dick's, Sports Authority, etc.  As well as the major distributors: Big Rock, Maurice, etc.  An important part of my job is understanding merchandising, end cap/planogram sets, and the importance that retail packaging plays in the eyes of the buyer and consumer.

I really think you've nailed it, and here's why:

  • I truly believe less is more when it comes to retail packaging.  With the average consumer, you have a limited amount of time to tell your product story on the peg at retail.  Excess copy can become overwhelming and confusing.  I believe you've done a great job of keeping your packaging from being too busy, while still telling a compelling story.

  • The quality image of the contents clearly shows the consumer exactly what they are getting in the kit.

  • The bullet points on the front and Brandon's quote highlighting the additional uses explains the exceptional value this product can offer.  In addition, it was smart to place the "Safe on all Sonar/GPS Units!" directly under the product description.

  • As a new product, featuring two well-respected and recognizable professional anglers helps provide instant credibility.

  • The QR code is a great idea and takes advantage of additional marketing opportunities with the advancements in technology and today's smart phone craze.  It is always a nice feature to show the buyer at the mass merchant, dealer and distributor level as well - how you are helping to drive turns and sell-through with your packaging.

  • I feel you've done a nice job with the colors, the font styles/sizing, brand placement and overall layout of the retail packaging.  I can see this being merchandised both at the POS station and with the electronics units, either on the shelf or peg (a benefit of a box vs. blister card or clam shell).

Well done.  Hit me up anytime if you'd like to chat about the nuances and logistics of working with the major distributors and mass merchants.  360-319-9779

Take care,
