If you had X amount of money to spend on a new (or new to you) boat, where would you put the priority on capital? Would you buy a smaller (if new) or older (if used) boat to make accommodation for the latest in electronics and gadgets? Think about it; going from middle of the road electronics to high end could add $4,000 for two units. A power pole is probably $1,500 installed. A BSX unit is about $600. A high end trolling motor is $1,200. All these things are powerful tools, but would you sacrifice on the ride to make room in the budget for them?

I don't disagree with you Ron that Jeff is awesome at what he does. I just want to warn someone who is making a major purchase that people do have bias and agendas and that you do have to wade through that information. Just an example, how many guys out there would only buy a Ford or a Chevy, and would tell you that the other one is junk? Just about everyone has a side in that arguement. But in the end, they are both gonna get the job done. I just don't want this guy to start eliminating boats because one guy has an opinion that might be nothing more than just that, his opinion. The only nock I have against Nixon's is that the used boat prices seem a little high compared to private sellers, but that is expected with any type of dealership on used items. I have delt with Jeff a few times and I would trust him in a heartbeat though. Awesome guy.

Off the topic, isn't the reason for a dealer to have a prostaff guy is to lead customers to them? I'm not saying in any way what so ever that that is a bad thing. I am in sales and know how important referals and word of mouth business is. But if you talk to a Triton Pro-staffer or a Ranger pro-staffer or a skeeter or stratos or Champion ect ect ect, they are all going to have reasons for why their boat is the best on the water.

I just think it is important to go into a major purchase with an open mind. If you are going to consider negitive information about a boat, get it from a guy who owns that boat, not another brand. Maybe they will have a valid point about the rod locker of live-well system or ride or something like that. Just because "Joe-Bob Smith" hates Stratos, and has never owned anything but Skeeters, I don't think his negitive information has much credibility. It's just bias.

Sparky, Get the biggest, fastest, newest boat you can afford. And make sure the color matches your truck...

P.S. Please don't take all the brand names or people names in context. They are just picked out of the air and any name can be used to fill any of their spots. It's all interchangable.

For my opinion, I like Ranger. Buts that is my bias and I can't say that I dislike any particular brand. There are a few models that I haven't liked certain things about, but overall, all the new boats 19 foot + with a 200 + are going to be great quality boats.
Pro-Staff guys do get deals on the boats up front though, right? I was offered one of these deals in exchange for time at shows, test rides, and referals. It just didn't work out at the time.

Damn, it's hot out....

Aaron, I don't know any guys that get kick backs or anything like that for selling a boat. I think only the salesman might get a small commission. I am a pro staff guy with a fully wrapped nixon's marine boat, and I will only tell someone my whole hearted truthfull opinion. No agendas here I am only trying to help another angler get what he or she needs or wants.

My truthfull opinion is that Nixon's Marine is the only bass boat dealer in this state. They have a fully stocked shop, so when something goes wrong you won't get the line "Well, we can order it for you" Jeff Priester knows bass boats and motors from the inside out he has been working around them his whole life. He told me he worked at Nixon's Marine when he was in high school sweeping floors. I don't know if there is too many guys in the whole entire state that know more about the boat business than Mr. Preister. On the other hand he has hired the best mechanic in any boat shop, Grant.

You might say I am biased but there are countless other guys out there from the entire West not just the Northwest that would back me up 100%.

One other thing to consider when listening to some of the people out there. Many of them have agendas. There are plenty of "pro staff" guys who want you to buy the same boat from the same guy as them because of kick backs and discounts that they get. You need to wade through the sales pitch's to get to the real information. I don't think that there is really a poorly made boat new at a dealership right now. Well, unless you go to a bayliner dealership. But, at least Force outboards went away!

First off who is "Frances"..and 2nd yes Nicks boat is nice but im lookin in the range of 19.6-20'..150hp-200hp..And as i have had a good guy say stay away from stratos well as a matter infact a few now i wont be looking there direction..i look alot on trader online and i search in triton,basscat,champion,ranger...hay ita a wish ok..lottery someday mmmm..
Aaron I represent Triton not because I get a good deal, I most likely could have had a good deal on any other boat as well. I chose to represent Triton because of I think they have the best mix of qualities I wanted in a boat. If I thought there was a better tool, I would go buy it, deal or no deal, because the guys I compete against don't mess around.

Most guys make boat judgements on what they hear or read, I made my boat judgements on what I drove. I have drove Stratos, Champion, Skeeters zx and I, Rangers vx and z series, Basscats, Legend probably a few more as well. I have alot more to go off of than the average guy I not only drove them I fished from them as well. Lucky for the consumers that most dealerships will be happy to set up ride alongs with there "pro staff" guys.

Ron-See, that is the right way to make a purchase. You got what you liked because of the qualities it had. Not because someone told you not to buy a boat because "it's bad." I think we are alot closer to the same side of this discussion than the reading would lead us to believe. When are we going out? I have Wednesday/Thursdays off now. Good anytime of the day.

Oh, and I do really like Tritons. The 21X is an amazing hull. Fast, good ride, and very fishable. Driven right, it's an amazing boat.
