Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Mine is crankin'.  I can't seem to really dial this in.  I'm a huge flippin' and soft plastics kind of a guy.  When it comes to crankbaits, I know you can just throw and crank, but I know there is supposed to be more to it.  Colors, size, different wobbles???  Thats just confusion to me, but I keep at it and some day I'll get it.

Anyways, what do you think your worse technique is when bass fishing?

Im right there with you. Caught a few but im still learning it.
Fishing new water, I always need a few days on a body of water to put it together. Oh I can catch fish on the get go but, to get the good sized fish it takes a little time. As for the crankbaits practice KISS, pick the design you want to use and one or two colours that match the water colour and just use them. I only buy crankbaits in one bright and one natural colour. I have been using crankbaits from Frog Belly Baits, http://www.frogbellybaits.com It was a natural colour and the water was clear, caugh a nice smallmouth on the first cast (before tuning it up, tune up done LOL) there were four bass chasing it.
Don't let the colours confuse you, one natural and one bright and then use the crankbait!
Oh and start out using 10lbs test line so you have a gauge to measure how deep a bait will run, I have one stick set-up just to test run and tune crankbaits, 7ft, with 10lbs. mono.
Spinnerbaits hands down
spinner baits and crank
I would say its a toss up between Crankbaits and Dropshot. I have gained more confidence in both this season, but I still have not gotten to a place where I feel proficient with either. I have the right equipment for both and have been putting the time in, but getting over that hump and making my success consistent is coming slowly.
Cranking is all about faith....just keep covering water knowing that bait is going to produce. There are certain areas where a crank is paramount.......boulder fields come to mind for smallmouth. The key is to get the bait to crash into rocks, or to barely clip the tops of the weeds, or at least to follow the contour of the bank you are fishing ....then just cover water, and stick with it.

My weakness has got to be Largemouth on the River. Never have caught a single largemouth on the River. Granted I' havent put in much effort....but I don't have a clue.
Plastics,Dropshot.....worms and jigs. I could also improve on my patience.

I can tell my deteriorating eyesight is one of my biggest weaknesses, when my vision used to be a strength.... stay young, Deuce!

Technique wise, definitely deadsticking.
Swimbaits without a dout ! I have been told what too fish , how too fish them , what too look for etc .. I have the hardest time putting my cranking sticks down and replacing it with a SB ! Its just one of those baits that requires sooo much time for best results and that goes against my style of fishing unless i have high confidence in that particular bait .. I know , I know , need too toss the bait the and stick some fish in order too gain confidence .. Btw, yes i was just talking too myself while typing , sorry the voices take over at times ..lol

David P , looks like i need to get too the training camp asap ... i will let you know bro ~~
It's cause all they bite on is spinnerbaits in K-Pow
