Well...here's my take. I never did as well as others on static football heads. As soon as I made the switch, I started catching big fish (Walleye too). I think I'm a bit of a power fisherman, and most likely drag a jig faster than most guys (especially since I'm not going to buy a another -slower reel). The wobble heads are supposedly designed for an intentional faster retrieve. I , and know that alot of the guys using it with a Biffle bug, treat it as they would a crankbait, and just crank it in quite fast. I'm not quite there.
I catch hundreds of fish every year on a plain football jig I've caught maybe a dozen fish this year on swing head. I do break a few football heads off now and then but that's because I fish them in a lot of Rock and wood and they will snag periodically. Just tie on a new one and keep fishing. Hook ups are better with the exposed hook football head IMO. I fish them deep and shallow for Smallmouth and Largemouth. A half and 3/4 ounce football jig is a bait I'll throw all year long.
