Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I thought it would be a good idea for the guys who attended the Spring Bass Seminar today to share something new they learned about fishing for Smallies or Bucketmouths.
Personally I liked the trailer trimming technique Ron Hobbs Jr. discussed to create a different action on the jig.
Thanks Marc and Ron for a very informative seminar. Also Thanks to Ron for the custom Jig...I'll post a pic of the Largie I am going to catch in So. Cal. next week....at least I have a positive attitude!

Great seminar by both Marc and Ron. Marc touching on the swimming drop shot was excellent. Can't wait to work on that...Ron's insight to jigs was awesome. Gonna work on swimming the jig as well as throwing it more during the year, instead of just spring. Thanks for the weights Marc and thanks for the jig Ron. I could have sat all day and listened to these guys.
Was a very informative and very well done seminar! Everyone stole my favorite points from the seminar already. So here are a couple more I thought were helpful.
- I thought Marc discussing his transition from a "traditional" jerkbait rod to a longer rod with more give when using fluorocarbon was a great tip.

- I thought Ron discussing using bulky trailers to slow the ROF of a heavy jig to that of a light jig to avoid having to use a light jig was another awesome tip.

Great job to everyone that was involved in this! I will definately be at the next Three Rivers seminar!
Another great seminar! Thanks to Marc for the Quickdrops and Ron for the custom jig.

A couple of favorite points:

Marc discussed how the bass' metabolism is still pretty slow coming out of Winter and how the fish will not be willing to expend a ton of energy chasing down a meal (bait). Therefore use a slower presentation that is right in the fishes' face. Also like the info on drop swimming.

Ron discussed jig profile and how to modify rate of fall and action with different trailers. He also touched on underhand skipping for docks, etc. Also great information on braid line vs flouro for abrasion and moving over branches, trees, etc.

Can't wait for the next seminar!
I really appreciated the way Marc was doing the Q&A with the crowd even before the actual begining of the seminar. Rons insights into pitching a jig and skipping with a baitcaster made me want to get out on the water and practice picking the birdsnests out of my reels...
ditto keith, there will be some choice words outta our boat while im picking them things out trying to skip with a baitcaster...

Thanks, guys for the feedback! You were a great crowd, and asked some excellent questions! Sorry if I rushed some of the information, there was so much more to say, and so little time.

I gave out the heavier sizes of QuickDrops on purpose. You probably would have preferred the smaller sizes that are so popular, but if you give these larger sizes an honest try, you will find that they allow you to do things with a plastic worm that you can't do any other way.

All our lives we have been taught to fish the "lightest weight we can get away with" and that is usually good advice; BUT that has always been when texas rigging. With the weight on the bottom in a dropshot rig, the larger weight doesn't bother the bite, but will help you do things like get a reaction strike in the summer or fall, or punch mats, or fish deep in the wind, or when you need to make more noise (weight banging rocks), or when you are bed fishing and don't want your lure to leave the sweet spot....etc.

ciao,
Marc
Hey Marc how was Lake Wa today? I passed you as you were about to get on 522 in Woodinville. I don't have very much experience with the drop shot so your info today was great.
Thanks again!

Man...I'd love to fish with these guys. So much info and knowledge there. It would only make you a better angler
just like every other year, ive always picked up a few things i can use.

thx for the HUGE jig, probably going to work wonders as a swimbait followup lure as well.
Thanks to Ron and Marc for the great seminar. I am new to the dropshotting technique as I just learned it last year and feel really great about the drop swim that Marc explained. I was glad to hear that it is very good technique on Lake WA, seeing that I am new to fishing Western Washington and have spent a lot of time fishing Potholes and Moses and some Spokane area lakes. I was thrilled to hear Ron talk about Jigs becasue thats also a technique I use rarely becasue I lack confidnce in it. Also I am looking forward to throwing Jerks and Cranks this spring when the weather warms over here on WA. Just trying to break into Western WA fishing after spending about 6 years fishing Eastern Washington shallow water, After all I do live in North Seattle. Thanks guys the info helps a lot!
