Today I bought a St. Croix Mojo Bass rod. I wanted a 7ft med-heavy power rod but I mistakenly bought the crankin version which is a med action. I was looking to use this rod dedicated for throwing swim jigs. I know the action is a little on the light side but will this work?

You mentioned this rod is a medium power but what is the action?  I'm assuming that since it is a cranking rod, it features a mod/fast or moderate action with a parabolic bend.  How far down the rod blank does the bend/taper shut down under load, and does it have a good backbone?  Honestly, this rod will likely be "underpowered" for swim jigs.  I always suggest throwing swim jigs on braid, which will help out some with the lack of power on an average 7' medium cranking rod.  Not ideal but you may be ok depending on the taper and action.

Tag to answer some of your questions the stick is med. action. The bend/taper shuts down about 1/4 of the way down and the backbone is okay. But it is a nice crankin stick. Even as good as my G Loomis crankin stick.

I would keep it to throw cranks and spinnerbaits on, probably will even work for you with smaller swim jigs. Not ideal but should work just fine! Just put it on 'em.
I think it will work well.  I'm a big fan of softer action rods used with braid.  Learn how to tie on leaders of mono or fluorocarbon and you've got a good rod for a few different applications.
Well too late. Yesterday I returned the crankbait rod and exchanged it for the spinnerbait one. However I wasn't home 45 minutes and the damn thing broke! About a foot of the tip broke as I was bending it slightly to see the action. Yeah I was pissed. The wife is taking it back and I am getting the Abu Garcia Veritas instead.  Don that is an absolute beast of a smallie in your profile pic.
Larrick, I too hope to add the Veritas to my arsenal soon!
Spencer yesterday while at the store I picked up one and played with it like 10 minutes. I really liked it and was very close to getting it then but I talked myself out of it basically because I had researched the Mojo Bass pretty good and hadn't had much chance to do alot of research on the Veritas. But after I broke my Mojo I looked into the Veritas more and the reviews were pretty good. If all goes well I'm gonna try to add another baitcaster and a spinning one to the arsenal. Easier said than done. Got to get it past the wife first.
