Washington Fishing

Just got back from the California Delta & a stop at Lake Shasta for Spring Break!

Three of us Eastern Washington University Fishing & Hunting Club members (Nick, Jose, & I) made the extremely diesel burning trip down to the CA Delta overnight after the Big Horn Outdoor Show on Sunday Night.

Some crazy misadventures, phone numbers across car windows and a overnight stay at awesome RC's Steakhouse in Shasta, stop home, sleeping in the truck every night, and not to mention some big Largemouth....a succesful Spring Break was completed.

Fishing overall was pretty poor. We hit the Delta on the day the huge storms came through and we got greeted with cold, wind and rain all 4 days we were there. The extremely high tides and muddy, cold, high water running in everywhere made it extremely difficult for some Delta Newbies to be succesful. The local tournament held the day after we left was won with 11 lbs. On the way back we stopped at Shasta for a day and didn't catch any spot worth talking about (I tried throwing a swimbait the whole time).

We caught a few here and there on a Jig, but nothing over 3 lbs. (I lost a 7-8lber halfway to the boat though). All the fish came from the slightly warmer and clearer water.

One morning though we only were able to fish for 2 hours due to the 50-70mph winds and a funnel cloud advisory.....but we whacked them, 20 lbs. for 3 fish in about 30 minutes.

All the fish were caught on the new Rapala Crankin Rap in Red Crawdad, running it along weedlines in sloughs.

Gear we used:

-My 6lber was on a Lamiglas Excel 705 Glass w/ 12lb Sufix Flouro.

-The other Nick's 2 hogs were actually caught on a makeshift spinning crankbait rod (He can't use a baitcaster yet) a Lamiglas Excel 702 spinning w/ 6 lb. Sufix Flouro.

Overall..an awesome time with great friends, and good fish. A Spring Break to definately remember. Can't wait to head back down there for the college tournament in May.

Nice job guys! Looks like you guys had quite an adventure.  Savor the college years dude they go by way too quick!
Sounds like a fun trip!  Good work on the fish too!  I agree with PJ, enjoy your time in college while you are still there! You will done with college before you know it!
Lots of rain down there over spring break, what part of the Delta were you guys fishing?

We fished the areas close to where we stayed in Stockton. We fished Dissapointment and Fourteenmile Slough, along with White's. We also ran a little bit into Mildred Island.

Yes, it was rain and wind most of the trip.
