Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

First of I want to say sorry to Les for getting his prop stolen, but it has brought up an expensive but important lesson. Props are expensive peices of equipment and they need protected. I think alot of us don't even think about someone unbolting our props and taking off with them. It can happen anytime, driveways, hotels, campgrounds, at weigh ins, you name it dirt bags are out their trying to take advantage of our stuff that we bought with out hard earned money

I have had a McGard prop lock for years now and I have not have one problem with it. It basically replaces the regular nut on your prop with their lockable one. No more worries about someone stealing your prop.  You can put it on and just forget about it and no one is going to steal your prop.

If anyone else has a good prop lock that they would recomend please let us know and add a link!

Here is the link if anyone is interested: http://www.mcgard.com/MarineProducts/PropellerLocks

As far as I can tell this link has the 74039 (mercury) for the cheapest! DIRT CHEAP!

Well, I used to prostaff for a company in Pennsylvania that made a great prop lock, but I must not have done a good enough job promoting them because they went out of buisness.  You have probably seen it on my prop.  It looks like the Club (for auto's) as it is a steel bar that wraps around the lower unit and hooks into the hub of your prop so the prop cannot be removed.

Works great, and would be a money-making product for someone to bring back out on the market.

ciao,
Marc

Thanks for the links Ron! Much appreciated!
will be my next buy for the boat thanks guys for the info and its sad for someone to have to have this happen for us to realized that we have to go this far to protect our stuff...

Are you serious? Looks kind of funny, hows the exhaust escape or do you have to take it off everytime you want to run your motor?  How do you pull the Mcgard prop lock off? Its threaded on, I don't get how it can be pulled off, unless you have the proper key to get it off?  Just wondering.

Russ do you have a selection of prop locks at Limit Out Performance Marine that guys can come by and purchase??

Ya I would like to know how easy it is to pull a McGard prop lock off ? Have you ever seen it done ?

Who wants to install and remove that yellow dealy ma bob every time the use there boat.  Line up 10 boats, 9 have the McGard and 1 doesn't.  The prop without the lock is going to get jacked.  Whether it's easy to remove or not, the lock is a deterant so that the snatch and grab theif won't mess with your boat.

I have no worries of losing my prop from theft, not even as a back up lol.
Kind of like surviving a bear attack just be faster than the guy next to you!

Ron,

I am serious as there are a couple of ways to get it off pretty quick and if I give you that info over a public forum the possibilities of your props disappearing are greatly increased.

Then hopefully we are dealing with unintelligent criminals that can't figure it out quickly!  Thanks for the input Russ. Saw your new rapped demo boat out on the water today it looked great!

I'll just fab one up in the shop. Probably something I'll have to remove before launching but better than nothing at all.
