Chris I would try and stay out of the cabin unless you need to use the facilities. Also stay away from the exhaust fumes of the motor. And try and keep an eye on land if you can. If not look out at the water and not in the boat. This seems to help me.
Good luck
Hey guys. Thanks for all the tips. I was planning on getting one of the patches for sure. I will try the sunflower seeds too.

You can't buy it here, but if you ever go to Mexico, or have friends in Europe, get it there. It rocks. Zero motion sickness. And you can be as hung over as you want, so how is that for a bonus?
Westport is a terrible place to get initiated into the salt. I have had the Wesport flu as well. I never puked but felt like I was going to all day long and I was miserable. I took Dramamine on that trip and it didn't work for me. Some swear by it. I have been on the salt many times since and have not been sick but expected to be sick every time. I did use that silly little braclet when I crossed the English Channel (notoriously nasty) and didn't get sick but I'm not convinced it was the braclet.
Good luck

I went out on a charter once in Westport. I didn't think I would get seasick, so I didn't take anything. Man, that was a bad idea. Worst day of my life, chummed all day long. Will never go again, there's no LM/SM bass out there anyway. Good luck.

We had an awesome time in Alaska. We fished for 3 days and brought back about 450 pounds of salmon, halibut, lingcod, cod and rock fish fillets between the six of us. I ended up using a scop patch but didn't need it anyway. We were fishing the inside passage the whole time and I've seen a lot rougher water on Lake WA. One thing about the scop patch in case anyone ever uses it...the side effects can be pretty bad. You get cotton mouth which isn't a huge deal but it also causes blurred vision. It got so bad that I couldn't read anything for about 2 days after I got home. I would trade blurred vision for seasickness anyday but it would be good to be sure you're going to need it first.
Chris, sorry I didnt' see this before hand. I used the patch and banana nut muffins in Hawaii and it worked for me too. I don't recall any symptoms. Was not nearly as bad as Wesport where I first got sea sick, but figured I add my Top 10 list of things not to do.
10. Don't eat anything that is spicy the night before. (Its worse coming up)
9. Don't drink coffee, achohol, and anything else that highly acidic (It's worse coming up)
8. Don't stay up all night the night before doing number 1 & 2.
7. Don't trust a Westport captain after a huge storm when he says were only going out for 20 minutes to see what its like. ( This is really a test of how many are puking, Most start at 30 minutes which is the time it takes most boats to hit the bar. He took us 3.5 hours in one direction up to moclips, and only 3 in 16 stood up to fish... 3.5 hours back and rainchecks.... no thanks)
6. Don't stand by any doors( there are usually pukers coming through them).
5. Don't expect that Breathing large amounts of Diesel fumes helps.
4. Don't believe anything anyone says to you is going to make you feel better, than when you step off the boat.
3. Don't take it personally when those that tell you to toughen up, do so. They have never been really sea sick, and are full of crap.
2.Some say, stay inside, some say look at the horizon,(theres a problem when you only see it half the time) some say sit down, some say stand up, some say don't stand on the rail, some say stand on the rail, ok you get the idea, there's lots of advice when your puking on a boat, Don't expect any of it to make a difference.
And the Number 1 think not to do when going out deep sea fishing...
1. Don't go in windy weather, or large swings in tides, and Don't forget the patch and banana nut muffins.
Hope you enjoyed. Feel welcome to add some.
