Heading over to Mardon next week for the first time. Was wondering if anyone could give a few tips on landing me some lunkers out of that big ole lake?

That lake is not that big right now.  My biggest word of advice is go slow if you are anywhere near the dunes or the dam!  There are some major underwater sandbars and rock piles that will take you out!  Take your topwater frogs!

PJ's got it, a buddy went over there a little bit ago and told me he saw 91 for temps in the dunes!

W/ the water that warm the fish stick on those sandbars and ledges like magnets there.

Be careful as the health dept. for Grant County just issued a warning for TOXIC blue/green algae near the Lind Coulle launch and the Job Corps Dike area.  That stuff can be very nasty.
Sweet! So as long as I don't crash my boat on shallow sandbars or die from toxic algae i should have a good time!! That's for the imput!!
Really appreciate the info thanks again!

I was over there last week and the fishing was great.  Saw the algae bloom in Lind coulee, its pretty nasty but the fish were still biting.  It pretty weedy in the dunes once you get out the the main canals but the fish are hitting the frogs.  The topwater action is awesome at dusk but be sure and bring a lot of mosquito repellant.  Good luck!

You will kill a dog if you let it swim during a bloom.

Yeah I just did some reading on it. The stuff seems pretty nasty but only harmful if you ingest it. So if your dog swims through it and later licks its paws or something it could be bad news!! They make it seem like its easy to spot though, they explain it as looking like bluish green paint on the surface of the water.

Collin,

Potholes is pretty simple.  After you launch, reach up to the top of your head.  Pinch as much hair in between your thumb, and your pointer finger as possible.  Clamp down on the hair and quickly make a ripping motion toward the sky.  Before you do this, tell your partner that if you sneeze, he is to kick you in the balls at the precise moment of the sneez.   If you don't sneez....well.....you will be able to tell everyone you got lucky at potholes.

Just got back from Potholes and had a great time, caught some lunkers as well 1 over 5 lb's!!! I got 1 question though does the water level ever get too low to fish the dunes? I was back in there but didn't see much structure at all the water was so low that the grass and brush was on shore...90% of the area looked like barren sandy wasteland I spent alot of time searching back there but was never confident about there being fish??
There is structure back there and it should be very visible now if you can make it back to it!  There are several stickups and huts that are in the main channels, but you really need an air boat or mud boat to get back to those now.  Last year in the later part of August I fished a club tournament over there and I was the only one fishing in the dunes.  All I was fishing was huts and stickups primarily.  I did not catch enough fish to do real well, but I did catch a 5.5 and two fish over 4lbs out of the back that weekend.  Almost all of your fish in that lake are now sitting off shore on ledges and ditches with some piece of wood or junk on the bottom.
