sales tax on tournament entry fees?

I just heard about this tonight and have no understanding of what it includes. If anyone has knowledge on the subject, please share! We all need to know.

RCW 9.46.293

Fishing derbies exempted.

Any fishing derby, defined under RCW 9.46.0229, shall not be subject to any other provisions of this chapter or to any rules or regulations of the commission.

I looked this up in the RCW's. Looks to me they exempted Fishing Derbies from the gambling taxes. Of course I am no Tax Lawyer, but I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

The 9.46. 000 series of RCW covers gambling, pull tabs, and yes even fishing derbies, as games of chance. But there certainly could be another law, ( RCW ) out there that says something else.

I'm no tax lawyer either, but I think most clubs are non-profits, and this status does carry some exemptions.

Based on how the RCW reads it appears that all organizations from clubs up to NW Bass will be effected i assume .

Its 2012 and none of this is new right , so my question is why is it "just now" becoming an issue in our community ? And who will take the hit on the taxes , anglers or the hosting organizations ? Is Big brother now the newest memeber on wafish ?
