Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hi Everyone,

This years club fishoff is currently scheduled for the first saturday in October - the same day as the dream team tournament on Banks lake. As you may know, scheduling in this state is a real pain and this is another prime example. The tournament cannot be held the weekend before because there are too many club events and championships, plus there is no permit available for Lake Washington on that date. The weekend after is the Mickelson and the weekend after that is the opening day of deer season.

So here's my questions: What would you all think about scheduling the club fishoff on  Sunday the 7th? This would allow the guys that want to fish banks to still participate in the club fishoff after a bit of a haul.

Other options include:

  • Holding the event on bank lake in Sunday
  • Disregarding deer season as we have the last two years
  • Holding the event on Sammamish in late September
  • or a variety of other options.

I would love to hear your thoughts. As of now I am leaning toward holding the event on  Lake Washington on October 7th.

I like the 7th as well whether it is on Lake Washington or Banks Lake. Your idea of Banks on the 7th got me thinking.  This might encourage more participation in each tournament.  It might encourage anglers that had no intention of doing the Dream tournament to fish it as well since they are already making the haul to Banks.  Also, this might encourage some Eastern Washington clubs to get in on the fish off since it is more of a manageable drive for them to go to Banks.  Not sure as to whether this will actually be the case but I think it is worth at least spending a few minutes thinking about.

On the other hand though, that is asking a lot out of the local club anglers to drive all the way over there.  Some crucial top 10 members for clubs that were planning on showing up might decide to bail to save gas money.  You certainly won't hear me complain if its on Washington.  I still think though that since its a team format, expenses can be split to make them manageable.  Maybe club funds could even help pay for something small like camping or lodging.  Even club fundraisers could take place to help the cause. The tournament is far enough in the future I think teams could plan for Banks and make it happen.  Again, just tossing ideas out there.

Either way, you will see me there!  Well, if I start fishing better in club tourneys that is!

My concern is we will lose at least half of the clubs by holding it at Banks, and likely will only pick up one or two eastside clubs if any.

Pond Jumperz are more than welcome to come out and fish.

Why limit yourself to October? What about mid November on Washington? It's not like the fishing is going to be any worse than it has been! Historically, the only November tourny has been the frostbite, and participation was way down last year! Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the objective for this tournament is to get the most participation at the lowest cost for participants?

I look forward to the event every year and I for one would not drive over to banks for a sunday tournament.

I actually agree with Chad, first time for everything.

If you agree with everything I say, you will become a much better fisherman by like 3x!

Riffe Lake in Sept on any weekend other then the 22nd and 23rd would draw maximine participation from WBC I believe. I would not drive across the pass for this. The first weekend of October would not work for WBC members.

Riffe is a long drive for northenders

I have no idea where to start this bashing.

I personally would prefer Sammamish in Sept. as I have already entered the Triton owners tourney at Clear Lake, CA on Oct.7 & 8
