Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Two of our regulars posters here, Chad Simon and Ron Hobbs Jr, are first and second respectively in points for the NW Bass AOY race.

To be leaders in points in the toughest circuit in the state is an accomplishment. It also says something about the quality of fishermen helping us out here at WaFish.

I hope they both do well in Tri-Cities this weekend.

You know we would've won this weekend if I didn't have this wedding tomorrow...
I heard a Rumor that Hobbs ran out of gas today...........
that would be extremely unfortunate. i came pretty close to running out today as well.

I saw him going UP river past me at White Bluffs area around 2 pm and I heard he started downriver around Caseys or Lower. Never saw him at the weigh in

How do you know the angler of the year standings? They don't have it linked on the NWB website.
Thanks for the kind words Eric. Unfortunantly today sucked for us, the water came up about 2-3feet from last weekend, and all of our bedding fish were gone. We found 3 good areas in a slough "not the f-slough" that all contained numerous beds within a cast of each other with really good fish. We fan casted these areas all morning, and the fish just flat out weren't there......long story short, we ended up with 10.38lbs with a big fish of 2.38, and all males mostly guarding fry. I heard the f-slough was packed today, and I also heard that alot of people making the run to casey's pond turned around due to strong winds.
I am a genius.
I looked at the results of the first two tourneys and added it up.

You have a throw away tourney though don't you?
Being in contention in a circuit like NW is going to make for an exciting season.

I still remember that feeling from back in '02 when Bill Maas and I tied with another team for ABA Washington West AOY. When the schedule came out and 5 of 6 tourneys were on Washington between April and June I told Bill that we were going to win AOY. The first tourney was on Sammamish (not good for me) so we trailed the entire season until the last tourney on Wa and we took 2nd place to move up to an exact tie. The sickening part was that I lost a LM over 5lbs when it skyrocketed out of the water and flung my blade right back at me. Losing that fish cost us the tourney, big fish money and worst of all the one extra point that breaks the tie.

The feeling of doing it against much larger fields with even deeper talent must be awesome. I sincerely hope that you have some more solid finishes and take that title home. To me winning AOY really separates the best from the lucky. You don't win that title by having one lucky tourney.

No, all tournaments count towards aoy for Nwbass. My goal this year was distinctly to win aoy, but after this weekend things are a little tougher. My father and I are still sitting in first place in aba west, as well as aba travelers, so next weekend at Silver lake will be interesting. You know we've been fishing these circuits for some time now, and it sure is fullfilling when things finally come together.

Alot of people did turn around due to the strong winds, us included. We pulled up on another one of our spots and caught back to back 3's on spinnerbaits and then proceeded to catch nothing but dinks all day. Congrats to whoever figured them out.

In response to the thread topic, it is awesome having these guys on the site to help out us less experienced tournament guys. These guys are not just tough in NW Bass they are tough period.

Eric, last year there were two throw away tournaments because they had seven rather than five. This year there are only five so all of them good or bad count.
Potter and I went North and as I told him before we "are putting all our eggs in one basket" which meant, we are either gonna be heroes or zeros. and we ended up closer to the latter but we caught some fish. I had a few spots where I caught 5 pounders in practice and went back and caught 2 in first 10 minutes around 2 each...then it petered out and we struggled. I have no regrets ( other than not having a tape recorder at dinner the night before) I think the water level had something to do with our troubles as well. One of these days I will actually have a game plan that will actually follow through for me.

I am looking forward to Potholes

Jeff

Ran out of gas 5 minutes from the ramp. We made a gamble and the only regret was running the boat at too high of rpm to not have enough gas to get back to weigh in. It is a lessoned learned. We ended up getting towed back after weigh in from Abbott and Flowers, thanks guys. We ended weighing our fish in after the awards we had 15.58. Too bad it didn't count, would've put us in tenth for the day, keeping us in the AOY race. Mike and I made an 1.5 hour run at the end of the day to fish for 40 minutes way up river. It panned out and we culled 3 fish. What didn't pann out was the gas thing. We both have no regrets and would probably do it all over again. We the 0 for this tournament it takes us out of the running.
