Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Our area is a very interesting when it comes to bass fishing, it is very different than other places in the country. Every place around the country has its small bait makers custom painters, but you never hear about them without some digging....

What are our local small independently ran companies or custom crank bait painters? Most of these companies are ran out of a garage with just enough money to put back into production and not into advertising, so we just don't hear about them. I need some help with this who are your favorite small companies from around the NW?

Here are the ones that I use like and their names of owner and company...

Sniper Lures....home of the snub, jfac craw, and Jrs magnum....Dan Johnson

Quick Drops.....home of the best drop shot sinkers on the market....Marc Marcantonio

Density Tackle...home of the Panic Minnow.....Brian Henderson

There are quite of few others....TW Swimmer, King Craw, Skull Fish, painters, lets hear them shout them out, but please consider who are site sponsors and who are not, so company names, and baits and why you like them, no links that take you off of WAFISH please!

Bikini bait company.........great glide baits with a killer swimbait coming.

Some of these are repeats.  I apologize in advance.

KGM Lures (Kenn Brain)- TW Swimmer, King Craw and King Craw Jr. are one of a kind, original, and proven fish catchers that you can't get anywhere else.  Knock offs of these just don't compare to the real deal.

Marc Marcantonio's Quick Drops - Original ds weight design at a great price.  Can't beat them.  Only ds weight I use.

Bass Kick'n Baits (Les Whitley out of Tri Cities) - I really like their tubes, slightly bulkier than your standard tube and are eaiser to slide a heavy jighead inside. Great colors and they get a lot of bites.  Caught my biggest smallmouth two years ago on one of these.

Sniper lures - In addition to the snubs, bolts, jr. magnums. etc. they make larger versions of the bolts that are killer for big smallmouth on a ds. Can't get anything similar elsewhere.

Worden's/Yakima Bait Company - I use the Timber Tiger crankbaits often.

From June - August I always have a quick drops dropshot weight, panic minnow and sniper snub/bolt tied on multiple rods.  Tried many of the knock-offs, none of them compare.

I also like the Jerry's Tournement Tackle Tubes, not sure if they are still in business, but I thought they were in Washington.  I always liked their tubes, little more slender, a little different profile.

What are the companies making more than plastics? I thought there were a few guys making jigs, but you don't see much outside of plastic pores. I would love to see some custom spinnerbaits or something.

Ez Limit Custom Baits (Austin Heyer) has some pretty sick swim and flipping jigs as well as some pretty cool pours. You can checkem out on Facebook...

Come on guys, this isn't all of them I did not post, I think guys are keeping their secret baits secret!  What about WCCT, Mad Bass, Iron Giant, Zaks, what about the guys from the east what is over there?  Does anyone have information on these companies, what do they make, and where are they from. I know there are a couple guys that airbrush cranks around here, does anybody know of them?

Ron, I used to run (WCCT) but no longer make baits.  The family obligations and my day job were making it very tough to get anything done.  I got tired of staying up until 3 A.M. pouring baits for very little money.  When you pour baits by hand and you get into the custom orders with 2 or 3 colors, it is very time consuming.  The hand pour business has also adapted to mostly hand injection.  I poured everything by hand but guys now that have little to no experience are using the injection molds and are able to produce perfect baits with laminate colors every time.    It made it tough to price stuff low enough to compete with these guys.  You can see this if you look at Ebay.  Guys are selling 100 packs of senko knockoffs for $10.  Hand pour guys can't come close to that and still make a profit.  I wish I could have retooled my molds but the money needed to do so was several thousand dollars.  Hopefully Austin Heyer will be successful in his new endeavor.  He is going to make one of my baits that was my best seller(Money Shot).  He is putting out some great looking stuff.  Hopefully he will get a great following from us locals.   Funny thing is, I sold way more baits to guys back east and the mid west than I did up here.  It's tough to get guys to try new things, at least that is what it seemed like.  When you have quality stuff out there like Sniper and Panic Minnow, it is tough to get guys to buy new stuff.

Ron I love supporting the local bait companies, but not a lot comes to mind that hasn't been said.  The company that makes the B2 Buzzbait is a good one, but I think they are based out of MO.  Mad Bass Baits is one I know makes some nice looking chatterbaits.  It's been on my list to order a few since I think I don't even own a chatterbait.

Chatterbaits are extremely easy and cheap to make. I made myself some custom 1oz baits last year, but I didn't really get to try them out. You can get everything you need off lurepartsonline.com.
