Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I am fishing a tournament this weekend and I can't make a decision. Maybe some advise from a few guys will help me decide. I fish this tournament every year and do very well. I always go for smallies and pull in bags from 19-21 lbs every year. So I just got done pre-fishing and happened upon some huge Largemouth. Lots of them. They where all 4-7 lbs. The problem is that I am not sure if they will be there this weekend and it is kinda far from my usual spot that I always do well in. The Largemouth would easily take the tournament if they are still there. What should I do? I could cross my fingers and hope to get the big greens or play it safe and go to my spot. Here's the other issue. I know that if I am not on my smallie spot first thing, There will be a guy on it that always tries to beat me to it. He's got a slow boat though. Should I go for it?

No worries at all man you know how much unproductive water there is. A guy has to spend some time on it to find the fish and right now there are plenty to go around.

I kid you not when I was in high school you never saw anyone out there and we were catching the crap out of the 4 pounders using whatever baits we could afford. It ruined us for fishing elsewhere.

Can't say much myself after last year. We ran way up the Okanogan where I had located some big fish, (somewhat odd), We nailed two fours and then broke down and floated our way downriver for the rest of the day. We ended up with 8 something. I just told everyone I was from Canada. LOL

The Dawsons are always fun plus I pick Mark's brain every chance I get.

Sorry to blow your stretch of water Shawn. I don't think most guys will make the drive. Good luck at Tri-cities

I live on this stretch and I hate to break it to you but it has been getting more pressure this year than I have ever seen. I still think it will produce, but I have never seen so many guys bass fishing there as I have this year. I almost have to go out in my dad's salmon guide boat to check on my secret spots.

The green fish come and go in that bad boy so you never know. I wish I could be there, I'll be down in the Tri-Cities getting my a** handed to me at the ABA. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

You can also hope Dawson is going to the ABA tourney!
I agree Ron, go big

I totally agree with Mike, go big or go home. Your not going over there just to slip by with a win, your going over there to dominate! I would go green all the way. I always go first were I have the biggest fish going, not the other way around, I think that is kind of playing chicken. Playing safe I guess is not in my repetoire, really your not fishing for life changing amounts of money, so take a chance, go for it and come off the water knowing that you went for the win not.

I hope you decide to crush all the guys in the tourney, blow outs are always the most awesome wins. When you catch 30 pounds of fish at least it makes the other guys know that they had no chance in hell of beating you, no if's no the big one that got away no I just needed one big bite.
Thanks Ron, I keep going back and forth. I know that I have a very good chance of winning with my smallie spot, but your right! How often do you get a chance in Washington to catch a 25 lb bag? Not very often.
There are two big fish pots. One for Lm and one for Sm. My plan will be to go after Green and get 4 good ones and then go to one of my Smallie spots and go Hog hunting for a big smallie.

Wasn't aware that was "your" spot. Seems to me I know the guy that showed you "that" spot. Good luck this weekend, as this is a fun tourney, but don't be surprised if there is a boat waiting for you.
Well, being that I'm gonna be the first one on it. I think I'll call it my spot.
And the trash talk begins!

Agreed. To my knowledge Chris grew up 2 miles away form that stretch of river and literally has been fishing it his entire life. I would bet that Chris probably has known about that spot for a while. Also, just knowing Chris, swooping up spots form people isn't really his steez. Good luck C-ride.

Ben don't you always like the guys that use a stage name! He needs to use his real name so we know who's calling Ryder out. Kind of bs if the guy gets in front of him especially if he's not fishing the tourney.

No intentions of calling him out. I, along with several others grew up on this stretch of river, and have fished it my entire life. I won't be fishing the tournament, nor would I have ever have the intention of camping on or even prefishing a good spot several days before a tourney. Even if I'm not fishing the tourney. I don't play that way. Good luck to all that are fishing, and hope you have a good time. Some pretty quick boats this year, so it should be a good race. My advice on the greens, pay attention to the water level and flow when they were there, cause they could be gone in a minute or there for days. Good luck.
It's cool, I'm not worried about it. I have enough spots to ensure that I will do just fine. Pics and results will be posted Sunday.
Ouch, nothing like winning the prefish trophies, geez, my wall is full of them this year. Best of luck to you Cris, BTW, if you need some Lake Powell info give me a call.

I talked to Mark last week and according to him he will be fishing in Tri-Cities.

If you need the secret 1/2 pound hole on the river up there I got it dialed in. :)

Dawsons never miss this one. They are my main competition. I hope they are there! It will be Rider and Rider vs Dawson and Dawson. lol
