... if it were brought to the Seattle area?

Mike Iaconelli and Pete Gluszek's new roving 2-day education tour is in Sacramento this weekend, and I'm wondering if the Seattle bass crowd is strong enough to support a stopover in TBU's schedule. Cities on the schedule (Philadelphia, Dallas, Sactown, Nashville) are no-brainers, but are there enough guys/gals in Seattle who aren't 150% immersed in the Westside salmon/steelhead culture to put Seattle into consideration?

Salmon U. and Steelhead U. have been very successful for several years at $150 and $98 a pop, respectively, but are there enough Pugetropolis bassers who'd pony up $200 for a two-day course like Ike and Gluszek have created? TBU's instructors include: Ike, Gluszek, Greg Hackney, Ish Monroe, Velvick, Dobyns, Gerald Swindle, etc. From what I understand, it's a two-day intensive seminar "for advanced students with experience and knowledge of the industry, bass fishing and the art of finesse".

I like the idea, and having been around some of these guys a little, I have no doubt it'd be an exceptionally professional seminar. HOWEVER, having also been "behind the curtain" on bass and seminar events in Seattle (anyone remember the old Big Bass Blast?), I wonder if we could get 100 people.

What do you guys think?

The only way I'd part witht that kind of cash, would be if there was local representation.

I'm not really interested in Ike talking about how he dropshots on Lake Erie, and then trying to relate those principles to the lakes I fish.

My $200 would be better served saving up for better imaging.
I think from the cross-section of replies here that the reception for a Bass University from the "pros" in Sacremento would be luke-warm at best. I'm guessing that's why they haven't been back out here. For what it's worth, I just talked to a guy who was in attendance at Sacramento today and said that Ike's presentation on finese fishing was "hands down the best" he had ever heard.
So much depends on what value you place on information, new ideas, and the experiences of others.
I don't agree that Ike's or anyone else's information regarding a topic that didn't fish our lakes would not apply here. In many cases, what they would have to say would have even more validity to it because you will be able to pick up on the subtle adaptations and adjustments that they make on different bodies of water or during different seasons. I think it just depends on what you choose to hear and how you choose to apply it. Touring pros or local anglers - both would have value. Local anglers will just be more accessible and easier to coordinate dates with.

Personally, I just love being in that environment (seminars, talking fishing) and even in cases where I may not agree with somebody, I still chalk it up as learning.
I agree Don. I guess my reply would change if the price was a little less, or if I didnt have to travel to Seattle.

There would certainly be value in having Ike talk about anything....like you said...each person will assess the value differently.

There's also an opportunity cost..ie...what could I have done with the $200 in another direction. I'd probably get more out of paying a local stick that amount to let me fish out of the back of his boat for a full day.

People remember 80% of what they do, and only 20% of what they hear.

Don, what are you doing around the middle of May? :-)

You are right - it does all come down to how much, how far away, and what else is going on.

The middle of May huh? Wonder if there is any good fishing that time of year?

Joel,
I am behind the idea of doing something local 100% for a seminar or University. My preference would be Northwest bass fisherman doing the teaching.
This type of thing would benefit everyone involved with Bass fishing and fishing products. Right now, more than ever before, the fishing industry is struggling big time. Jordan's comments about getting tackle, boat, etc. is an excellent idea. This would benefit retailers and provide needed information for all of us bass fisherman trying to improve our angling skills all at the same time. It's a win, win in my opinion. Let's make it happen, just let me know how I can help!

Well the only time I've seen Mike Ic. on tv fishing here on Lake Washington he wasn't fishing with a Bass fisheman, only a salmon fisherman who said he didn't know a thing about Bass. If a real Bass fisherman in Washington had been with Mike Ic., then Mike Ic. could have caught fish because the local Bass fisherman could have put him on fish. Also Mike Ic. should have been able to find fish anyway unless he was just depending on the salmon fisheman to put him on a good spot and not hunting/looking around on his own. But then he was on a limited time schedual so I'm thinking Mike Ic. was depending on that salmon fisherman to put him on bass to save time. Therefore they had a nonproductive day, for salmon as well as for Bass. I'd not even heard that he was out here twice. But still, I'd rather listen and learn from local anglers who would know the local tricks. The national people would still be interesting and have good info.

I hear ya Kevin , And for the record im a fan of Mike also but here is my beef ! He was been out here to fish our lakes twice and has yet to get anything going (blanked) . I would rather pay to hear Ron H , Marc M, Aaron E, Tony L , Tag W, etc talk about our lakes over Mike "any day of the week" .. And to be frank with ya , i honestly believe that deep down inside Mike wouldn't mind be part of the audience himself ..lol .. Just my 2 copperheads on the matter !!

I would go for sure heck i'm willing to fly to Sac to go, Seattle is a lot more convenient. If you are worried about the $200 I will remind you guys that you will be learning from the pros. I don’t know about you but I would be more excited about meeting Mike Iaconelli then the Queen of England.
