Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

On my other forum that I attend, a member posted a rather interesting thread. 10 pound plus fish! Who has caught one? What did the monster fall to? Why do these fish seem to be more intelligent and harder to catch? Lets see some pics of fish near ten pounds or over ten pounds and the insite on what the angler thinks about how to catch these monsters.

ya he has picks of it, have i seen it? no,but i have talked to enough people though and they all say that it was caught. i have seen picks of 8s and 9s caught out of the same lake though. so i believe that it was caught.

Hey Jake,

I agree with Ron's assessment of the double digit fish in this State. Here is a brief summary of the 5 biggest largemouth I have caught in Washington. All five were caught from different lakes.

11-3/4# - late September 6:00 am
Bait: 1/2 oz. shad colored buzzbait
Location: open water. 150 yards off shore where a large flat breaks sharply from 12 to 20 ft.

11# even - Early April around noon
Bait: Tru-Tungsten Bluegill swimbait w/ 1 tungsten ball in chamber
Location: 75-100 yards off shore - 8' of water - small ditch running parallel to a shallow weed edge leading up to a large flat loaded with timber

10# even - mid April 3:00 pm
Bait: 1/2 oz. custom mop jig made by Hobbs (Black/Blue)
Location: 30 yards off shore - Submerged laydown

9.7# - early April 2:00 pm
Bait: 3/4 oz. Customized Black/Blue Spinnerbait with a single gold over sized Colorado blade. Large black saltwater grub trailer
Location: 50 yards off shore - 6' of water - small isolated lily pad patch - large flat

* Lost a fish that was at least a pound heavier 15-20 minutes later (same pattern) Heart breaker.....
* Using this same spinnerbait, I had a day in mid-March (different lake, similar water clarity) where I caught an 8-1/2 pounder and two fish in the mid-7's in a 30 minute time period. Location was roughly 200 yards off shore slow rolling the spinnerbait along the bottom in 6' or 7' making contact with submerged wood in the middle of a weed flat. (approximately 3 pm)

9.2# - early April 4:00 pm
Bait: 1/2 oz. custom mop jig made by Hobbs (Black/Blue)
Location: Middle of large tree 20 feet off the bank. 3' of water - deep water adjacent (multiple presentations)

What was the common denominator with these catches? Dumb @ss luck.
I found all these spots by either using my electronics, contact baits, visually or a combination of these three to dial them in. It is absolutely worth your while to dedicate a large amount of time to using your electronics and contact baits to find potential big fish spots that most anglers will overlook.

By exploring, I have found quite a few amazing spots on some of these lakes that I believe could produce huge fish every year. Unfortunately, I haven't been able to dedicate any time to them.

Tag,did you spend time cruising the lakes for these or were these spots passed down or map found.Obviously some were visuals.Say like long lake,is it worth it to just cruise a lake like this back and fourth or just stick to docks and the off shore stumps. And with 5 like that,Hardly D.A.L
Tag this could be the coolest post ever, thanks for sharing the details of your best catches.

Awesome list Tag !!

Cody, you aren't going to address the 14lber? For the record, I don't believe it.
I'm with you I heard these stories all the time in high school.

Feel free to let me know where these spots are and I'll be happy to dedicate my time to fishing them.

Sessler, that is classic!

Mike, you know I will happily share these spots. I sure don't have any time to the fish them, and we can't just let these fat girls swim around with their maxillaries and mandibles intact.
