Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Guys,

I've struggled with keeping up on the latest techniques/lures for tournament fishing.  It's not that I'm unwilling to try them, it's just that it seems so often you don't hear about them until several tournaments have already been won on them and the secret is out of the box.  So what resources do you use to find out about the latest and greatest techniques/lures in fishing?

Screwing with things to try and come up with something new and cool is my philosophy. I'll tinker with baits hooks and stuff in my free time and I am usually just pleased if it is new to me and works well. I don't do a ton of reading of magazines, but I will try things that I hear are interesting or I think look interesting. I don't think I am ever the first to try things, but then again who is? I mean really who can actually say they are the true pioneer of a deadly technique, not many guys I know.
I just go on bassmaster and FLW, either that or i take a lure or technique and modify it to wat i think would work and just try it.
This should help:

I agree with PJ to stop on top of it you must create it yourself, for example your weightless jig, no one else is doing that, if it caught on maybe one of the pro's would win a tournament on it then you would be mad that you didn't get credit for it! Especially when Paycheck starts selling weightless jigs for $7 a pop. Keep trying stuff, keep making stuff, keep tinkering with stuff, this is the only way to stay ahead. I tell you another thing get out of this state and you will be exposed to alot more things as well. Rub elbows with guys that are known, trust me they get shared sacred info. every day.
Honestly you gotta network, talk with buddies trade secrets with them, share ideas with them. I've learned a ton this year just BS'n over the phone with some fishing buddies! I've also found that some of the websites out there have some quality videos...check those out, eventually you come across something.

And if all else fails wait till Hobbs shares one of his secrets;)
Here’s an example...check out Manabu Kurita's footballhead. I’ve never seen anyone use this and I definitely wanna give this a try this year!

The bait looks like a death adder (don't know the spelling) Deps makes it, it is not that the bait is secret, if you think about it all that has changed is the profile of the jig, action and fall rate, the technique is the same. I think if guys start thinking about changing details about there presentations they would be suprised. I think I mentioned on another post that I think there are some key variables with baits... profile, fall rate or moving speed, action, color and least of all scent or taste. Sound could be another.
