Washington Fishing

OK - let's hear the most tiring questions you keep on getting from non-bass fishermen on the lake. Here are the two that I almost can't stand hearing anymore.

1. Why do you need SO many rods?

2. Why do you need a boat that goes 70mph? You can't fish at that speed.

I recall another question from a trout fisherman a couple years ago.

I was close quarters pitching/flipping a jig to submerged wood while a couple trout fishermen were still fishing with floats (bobbers) nearby. My line jumped and I set the hook hard on a 6-1/2 lb. pounder. I muscled it away from the cover quickly and lipped it. I didn't have much line out and the fish wasn't too ornery so the fight was non-existent.

One of the trout fishermen quickly comments,"Wow, that's a nice bass, but what is the sport in that??? What are you using, 20 lb. mono like those guys on T.V.???"

I replied, "Nope, 20 lb. fluorocarbon."

Apparently to be "sporty" you need to use 4 lb. test and stare at a bobber all afternoon. Not trying to pick on the trout anglers, but I could fill up 3 pages with their questions and comments over the years.

Reminds me of another one....I am throwing an 8 inch Huddleston offshore at a local lake and these three trout anglers in a small boat motor a quarter of the way across the lake on their electric to tell me what I am doing is extremely cruel, not to mention illegal. I kindly explained to them that I was fishing with an artificial trout imitation lure. "Man, that sure looks realistic." Yep, that's the point.
1) What are you doing?
2) What are you looking for?
3) Why the "f" are you in my living room?
4) Do I just show up in your living room?
5) Do you agree that you are invading my space?

The above questions were asked of me today by a home owner on Lk Wa while pre fishing for next weekend. I grew weary from answering his questions. Below are my answers:

1) Fishing
2) Fish
3) I didn't realize you invited me into your home
4) You would if I invited you.
5) That is a matter of personal opinion
Do bass eat trout? and if so,...why?

All of the above are common and annoying. That is with the exception of the squirrel. That's a new one.

The why don't you keep them is the one that gets me pissed off. Like C&R is a new concept.

There is also the "what happened?" when you have a bad tourney day.
Why do you need such a fast boat just to go fishing?

I always like the "isn't fishing boring?" Question too.
As an owner of a lake house, you should be far more considerate.....

I hate the question, Are you catching anything ? Ya sir, I caught a 6 lber right over there with a jig, you should go over there and try it ;-) I am never catching anything on the water.
i have always liked the " i bet you can pull lots of skiers with that motor"
Do they?

I get tired of the people who ask what ya fishing for? bass, Theres bass in this state? Most often its some guy from the south who thinks bass are only for southern rednecks not us northern boys.
Here is a series of questions and answers that are commonly heard over the phone in my boat...

Wife asks: What are you doing?

I answer: Fishing:

Q: FIshing???

A: Yeah thats what I said?

Q: will you be home before dark?

A: Probably Not.

Q: Will you be home before 10:00

A: Maybe.

Q: did you forget about dinner at my Moms house Tonight?

A: nope...I might just be a little bit late!!
I always like the "What are you fishing for" from homeowners while fishing.

Immediately followed by "There are bass in this lake?"...
