Lake Whatcom Stakeout
Last Saturday I was fishing the silver beach area on Lake Whatcom. The wind was blowing out of the West to S.W. direction. As I casted along the side of the last dock (east end of silver beach) the wind took my line and looped it over a metal cleat by a sail boat. Not wanting to snag anything I got closer to the dock to retrieve it by hand. A man and a women came running out of the lower condo screaming at me and ran onto the dock to inspect their presious rope. I told them the line was wraped on the cleat and not the rope. Of course they didn't believe me and inspected all their ropes. Yelling and insinuating all kinds of things that weren't true. Anyway I held my tougne and moved on. But they continued to watch me for sometime with Binoculars taking notes. I realize we snag a rope or two when fishing and many of us have also snagged some docks but I thought this was over the top. FYI if you are fishing this area on a Saturday.......Big Brother is watching.

I think I know exactly who you mean. A few weeks ago I pitched a drop shot near a small sailboat in the far north end. Well this lady comes just flying out of her ground floor condo yelling all the usual stuff about private property and what not...good grief.

Man when you snag a dock on Moses the most anoying thing is when the land owner comes out and talkes to you about the 10 pound smallmouth that are always jumping in the slough. Sometimes they talk to you for 10 minutes about the 5 pounder LM that lives under the dock.
The thing that bothers me is that the sailboat is using public property. One case in point is Cresent Bar near Quincy. The landowners there are on a long public lease. Well they haven't been to open to the public the last 20 years. There lease expieres in the next year or two. Guess what? It problably is not going to be renued. I just can't believe that some of those west siders are throwing such a fit about (their) docks. Which legally are on public property. -

I'm headed up to Whatcom tomarrow with my grandson I'm not sure were Silver beach area is. I fish it a lot mostly the north end. Give me an idea and I'll make sure to check out the sailboat people while I'm there.

Straight north of the launch is Silver beach. then fish east ward to the last dock. Bingo you have found the spot. Look for the sailboat with the brightest mooring lines. The lady lives in the bottom condo. Good Luck

Be sure to educate her that she is breaking the law (RCW 77.15.210) by "Obstructing the taking of fish, shellfish, or wildlife. Penalty is a gross misdemeanor and or jail time."
Then point out to her that her bright mooring lines are visual pollution.
