Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

After watching the video Dez and Chris posted I was jacked to hit Lake WA. I have only fished it twice but I did a little research and picked out a few spots that looked good.Launched at Mercer Island this morning and fished the pilings right off the launch, Newport Shores area, pleasure point, and the north side of Mercer Island. Felt like I was on fish, seeing them in the 25-35' range mostly but could not buy a bite. I dropshotted and threw football heads even tossed the jerkbait and crankbait too. Frustrating day.

Atleast you got out and gave it your best Eric !!! I mentioned in the beginning of that video that this time of year an angler can hit the lake and not get many bites or you can flat out whack'm !! lol
I went sunday for about 3 hours and got 1 bite & no fish ..haha No need to be frustated man , Keep in mind that not only are you fishing during a transitional time of year but your also fishing lk washington , completely unpredictable !
Lk wash is my favorite lake , mostly the some of the reasons i mentioned aboved , i like the fact that the lake will always throw you curve ball and keep ya on your toes !
The Lake can be very unpredictable and Saturday was no different. I went out with a very good fisherman in my backseat and had a small wager against two other guys that are great fishermen, that also frequent this site. I caught nine good SM and had about 17#'s for my best five. My backseater had one bit and lost it and our competition said they threw back the two small fish they caught. I caught fish on a swimbait, a big football jig I make myself & dropshot, didn't seem to matter. But, the fact that so many people struggled shows that perhaps it was just my day. I have been on WA probably about 10/14 of the last Saturdays and I throw slightly different stuff. As much as I enjoyed spanking the three guys I was competeing with, I also recognize that it was tough out. As long as the wind stays away, I think the lake should stay good for a while. The water was 56 degrees and the fish were in 25-30 feet.
Thanks for the feedback fellas. Dez I was just having 2 fish 1 net fantasies lol. I realize it can be tough this time of year + I need to do my homework and practice on this lake to get better. Are you guys catching most your fish on rocky bottom? I was hoping to find more of that but ended up on weeds most of the day. Very nice fish Mike love days like that. Phil thanks damn your photo is hard to look at man!

Sunday was a joke. Got up and saw sun poking through the clouds and was amped. Thought the day would be a nice relaxing day even if we didn't catch many fish. Got on the water and the wind started going. White caps up north, we couldn't sit on anything. I guess the only good thing that came from Sunday was i now know what my boat sounds like when it totally leaves the water.
Phil , im upset with you bro , Mainly for your new pic ... see what happen is that i first glanced at it and said to myself WTF , then i leaned closer to the screen and made out the image ..this kinda brings me back to the reason why im upset with ya bud ..lol :-(

Thanks for the rundown Mike. I was out saturday and it felt like one of those tough days. I have no expectations on that lake most of the time, but I was able to catch 2 dink SM and a dozen sunfish :-) yum yum.
Got out today and caught two nice ones in the east channel but the bite shut down for me at 9am

Nice fish Joel! The one on the right looks chunky. Wish I could have got out today. How did you catch them? I just picked up a map for Banks lake and on the backside is Lake WA. I am going to study it up and get back out there!

Footballheads in 25ft, ya study up on that topomap. I would spend some time learning that east channel and coleman point area...theres a lot of other good areas on the lake but thats a great place to start! Launch out of Mercer Island and start in on the I90 bridge and work your way south...good luck, its a HUGE lake=)

Nice pair.
Ill be out this weekend.
Looked at the topo and found some spots of interest including spots in the east channel
Hit lake WA again on sunday launched at Mercer first light headed to Webster point fished around the point from 20-50' nothing. Cruised over to the 520 bridge and fished around some pilings no luck.

Stop at the 1-90 bridge on the way to Seward park and fish some pilings got a couple bites on a dropshot but felt like small fish my buddy has one on a few minutes later its a perch. We leave and head to Seward park trolling motor on a slow creep we are parallel to shoreline my partner is fancasting a jerkbait and I am dragging a football head from 25-45 feet no luck.

Blanked again this lake is freakin killing me.

Welcome to smallmouth fishing on the wash eric ,
I use to spend wayyy to much time on spots in search of one bite just because its a community hole or was told by someone to fish.
These dayz i fish the lake much different , after lots of time and paying close attention to the graph i now mainly focus on the sweet spots on each area i attack, time on the water and good electrionics will tell you this.
sweet spots usaully consist of outlining a particular drop off , edges , rock piles , wood, etc ! Next you also have to put even more time to then determine what sweet spots exist in the different depths that the bass are staging and feeding in for that time of year , time on the water will tell you.
As you can see eric time on the water is how all of these variables will play out for you through out the entire year to stay on fish. Its so easy to interrupt time on the water as "just going fishing" , if the angler continues to fish the same way and refuses to sacrific there time to explore and learn , your end results will always be the same imo .. Hope this helps give you a better understanding of how to take full advantage of your valuable time when you do get the chance to hit the lake :-) ....
