Anybody want to recommend some hard jerkbaits that wont' get a guy divorced if he wanted to buy 5 or 10 of em?  What alternatives are out there?

I lost an LC pointer this weekend in some rocks, and had to gather myself before getting back on the trolling motor.

Did anyone read Snakes complete thread? I am sure he was asking about cheaper alternatives. Dez recomends megabass even though they cost $10 more than a L.C. I am pretty sure he doesn't know how to read though, his second suggestion makes more sense, then Russ recomends the squad minnow which is the same price and another lure that has been discontinued and when they are found are expensive, he third statement is totally on point. I just thought I would point this out.

Are you guys talking about the Rapala Husky jerks or are you talking about the Rapala X-Rap's, I have caught fish on both versions and used to tear them up when the husky jerks first came out.  Still  Suspending rogues have been around for a long time and work great as well.

This isn't coming from a person who uses a lot of jerkbaits, but I am using them more and more these day. I think the people who couldnt get their cheaper jerkbaits to suspend just weren't trying enough. If it sinks out of the box, throw it away. If not, then there are a million ways to get it to sit perfectly. I know you can make an x rap suspend head down like a megabass ito if your willing to put in the work. Now, it is way easier to just buy the ito, but its not cheaper, so there are some ideas.

Straight out of the package though, I haven't had any problem with x raps (I did have one crack on an errant cast though). I have some rogues too, but haven't ever had success on them. They look nice in the water, just not a confidence bait I guess. Can't think of any other budget baits unless you want to get into purchasing knock-off itos for about $3 and painting, weighting, and sealing them yourself.

Yes Ron,

I was looking for cheaper alternatives.  Sorry guys, I should have been more clear.   Maybe plunking down the xtra money along with a lure retreiver is a good way to go.

I'm guessing you get what you pay for on jerkbaits that suspend.

Thanks again for the input.

I don't think you could have been any more clear.

snake you can find LC and Megabass on ebay quite often as inexpensive as smitwicks, rapalas, etc.

Link? the ones I have seen have all been knock-offs painted and sold as the real thing, but clearly are not.

I would not suggest ebay as much as I would BBC.  I buy a ton of LC jerks off there for $10 each tyd new.

You two should get married! :-)

I still think quality baits that have better color options like LC, Megabass, or ZIP catch fish better than Rapala or Smithwick in alot of situations. The problem is, to really match what the fish want you need a large color selection in alot of different depths etc etc. However, buying one bait that catches more fish is a better option than two that catch fewer fish obviously...and you won't lose em anymore cause you nows have a lure retriever. :-)

You two love birds both make good points though!

Maybe you're available and you can teach me how to catch a fish? I seem to have forgotten over the years.
