Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

So as I'm venturing into the swimbaits, I'm curious if you guys gravitate toward the braid to floro/mono hook up. Alberto knot? Leader spools vs filler spools. Line brand? I've talked with somebody on this and would like to hear all other opinions. I've already taken a choice in what I'm going to do but I wanted to see what others are doing. Maybe we can all learn from who does what and why...it seems to change as line, baits, hooks and snaps evolve. I'm not second guessing what I've been told one bit...trying to start a learning post that we can use as a high end guide with complete confidence.

Okay hobbs I will bite  ...its early in the day and i still tring to wake up ...Can you first confirm what manufactor sells 5lb braid ?  ... then answer me this bro ...If 10lb braid equals  2lb diameter , what is the diameter for 5lb braid  ? ...I cant even begin to start asking you more questions centering around your reasoning untill i know the answer to these two questions..

Do us all favor and wrap whatever line you have around neck , pull tight and venture away from here forever dilweed! That's my "high end" opinion! Douche!

Just goes to show every angler has success with something that has evolved with their ability. We all started with rods and reels that we would probably shake our heads at today. As your confidence progresses, along with your ability to dial in the fish, so does your equipment.

Butch Brown (for an example) uses 15-20 pound Seaguar Abrazx fluoro and he changes it every single trip. Not once does that line hit the water again on the second day. To some, this would kill the pocketbook, or flat out seem ridiculous. But he has his reasons and who would argue with him? No one that I know lol.

I've enjoyed reading the responses so far though. Lots of great information for any level of swimbaiter.

All i know is that there are 58 replies regarding line connections. Im losing my mind.
This topic has kind of strayed but I think that is good when you can take good stuff about one type of fishing and wrap it into another, that's why I like to read magazines that talk about all types of fish, I do not have a subscription to any bass magazines.... did I just blow your mind..... well I don't I actually love reading IN Fisherman the most, walleye techniques intrigue me, I think alot of times it Parral els smallmouth fishing in the ways of preferred forage and structure. I will get back to the braid deal, but if you really want to find out I will be doing a seminar real soon, maybe I should hold my cards until then!

I use 8lb braid to a 5 or 6lb leader for dropshot pretty often. All I can say is anything below 10lb braid has a learning curve. It's like thread.

Hey PJ, what are you using as reel backing, and what type with that 8 lb sewing thread braid ?  Any kind of old mono or ?

When I use 8lb braid I back it with some old mono that I have, 10lb I think. I used to get the cheap braid but found that the more expensive stuff holds up better. I really like 8lb braid to a 8lb fluoro leader for dragging 1/2 fb heads in the winter. Good sensitivity and no stretch. I typically run a 4-5 ft leaded. I use the chi-mo stash knot.
I back with 8lb mono usually. Just enough to cover spool face. I fish Stren Super Braid its an old braid no longer made. Ive had great luck with it!
