Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

... and, as I reported from the Forrest Wood Cup back in August, the Pacific Northwest won't be one of the stopovers.

Tournament sites for 2010 include:

Lake Shasta
Roosevelt Lake, Arizona
Lake Mead
The California Delta

Entry fees have been cut to $2,000 for pros and $350 for co-anglers.

Nope way too early for me. Why the heck would FLW put this event on in January

JAN 13-16th....I talked with Frank O'Laughlin earlier today and he said the schedule is changing again. I should know the exact days tomorrow hopefully and I'll post them. Looks like Shasta in Jan is a sure thing though. COLD!!!!!

What is the date of the Shasta event, I would love to fish this one since I have fished it weveral times and know it pretty well.
Well it's official... this is the schedule as posted in FLWOUTDOORS.com. The ended up not changing it again. Sorry for the confusion... My source was confused... and so was I!

National Guard Western Lake Shasta Bridge Bay Resort Redding, CA 1/13 - 1/16

National Guard Western Lake Mead Callville Bay-Forever Resorts-Concessioners of NPS Las Vegas, NV 5/5 - 5/8

National Guard Western California Delta Morelli Park and Boat Launch Stockton, CA 6/9 - 6/12

National Guard Western Lake Roosevelt Cholla Recreation Site Payson, AZ 9/22 - 9/25

Do those people in Georga even know that it snows at Shasta in Jan?
January? that can't be right. I see that it says it on the website, but who fishes tournaments in January. I'm not even going to El Salto till end of February. Better get a snowmobile suit and some electric socks.
That distance thing is is something I have experienced in my work before, folks on the east coast have no concept of how big the west really is and how far things are. Heres some trivia and a frame of reference for ya, Washington state is the smallest state west of the mississippi, except for North Dakota and Oklahoma and Its larger than every state east of the mississippi except minnesota and michigan. I believe the highest mountain peaks (not passes but just peaks) in the eastern half are only in the 6500 foot neighborhood, so not as high as going over snoqulamie pass. Something like that, don't have it from memory.

January..... ugh.
People on the East coast are clueless period.
Well... Most tournament officials fly to tournaments so... they don't need to worry.

From an optimistic point of view, brave souls who wanted to put up with the crazy schedule could really shine in AOY standings. I believe you'll have most anglers only fishing a few of the tournaments setting the bar a tad bit lower for the AOY contender who fishes all 4.

Talking with SFC O'Laughlin about the schedule... he believes you'll see close to a full field at most tourneys due to the televised schedule drawing more of the STREN anglers out... we'll see and I hope so for the sake of the West Coast Tournament series he’s correct...

I’m ok with the January tournament in Shasta and the Delta… it’s the long haul Mead and Roosevelt that bother me. Like Ron and I discussed last night, they could have been back to back to alleviate towing a boat and trailer 40 hours per tournament. What can we do about it though? Really nothing but ask yourself whether to participate or not… That’s the question everyone has to ask themselves.

I whole heartedly believe the Western series is the best tournament available to the Northwest and our angler’s do shine in the competitions. Until another more user friendly tournament designed to draw the Northwest angler’s out of the wood works presents itself… we’re stuck!

Well, my 2 cents and I hope to see more of the Wafish Pep’s at tournaments this year!
There has been a number of tournies on Shasta in Dec/Jan time frame. The spots always seem to have their feed bags on. Plenty of fish to be caught at that time of year. The problem with this date is the logistics of what Ron said. Getting your boat over the pass. It may require going the long way around or allowing an extra couple of travel days to get there and back.
To those who do fish it, good luck and find the schools of trout and you will find the spots following the schools around.

Wish I could fish the circuit (no matter what lakes or dates) but there is no way I will take that much time off from work to travel that far.

Now if they had a circuit in the Pacific Northwest then I'm on it like Green Pumpkin on a Hula Grub.

ciao,
Marc
I think this is why Jordan doesn't have "Smiley Central" here. People just go crazy with them. I hate Smiley abuse.

Stren release that came out today. Western Stren series cancelled!! So do they really want the west coast anglers involved? Too much competition for them out here is my guess.
The whole situation sucks, but it is going to help me as a non-boater for the series a little bit better. I am planning on trying to fish the whole Western Series as a co-angler

It is quite sad on how they are having so many problems with tournament trails down in CA, but I am extremely happy how NWBASS is doing great. I made a quick look at the tourney trails down in CA, there are soo many with "eh" numbers. If they could just consolidate into a few trails, it would increase $$ and numbers.
