Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I think everyone should understand the battle Lisa and Gary are fighting for all of us and the sport we love.

They are fighting a big battle with the State over taxes on tournaments. They have won one battle but still face more on the second part of this issue and more attorney fees.

They have already spent a lot of their own money and savings with still more to come.

My suggestion to Gary was to charge an additional one time $25 per member to the registration fee at Banks. This would go along way in helping recoup some of the money they have spent. He was concerned how the fishermen would react?

This is a battle they are fighting to help us all be able to continue to do what we love!

Lets support them and show we want them to continue!

Respectfully;

I agree 100%.  I have been talking with my tournament partner about this very thing.  We should all try to help out in some way.  I was even thinking $50 extra per team.  I know Gary and Lisa would never ask, and that is what makes them special people.  They have done more than most of us will every realize for the anglers and the sport of bass fishing in this state.  We showed with helping Chase out that we are a very special, tight knit family, so let's keep the generosity going!

Well put Bill and Dana.  Gary and Lisa can count on my support as well.  Maybe we should seize the momentum and discuss some sort of anglers advisory group to help on this and other issues affecting bass fishing in the Northwest.

Dana you are a true professional and friend. What we need is everyone who fishes the Banks tournament to kick in the extra $25 that would net around $5000 and would go along way in helping out.

Come on guys step up and show your support! Thx

Don, thanks for your support and ideas. Your friend!

Anglers in Washington State need a political action group that takes on a variety of issues such as this, proposed lead bans, tournament permit limits, hiring of warmwater biologists on WDFW staff, etc.  We need good legal representation and a lobbyist to protect and further our interests.  We need to conduct fundraising activities, and we need to develop a close relationship with ASA, and all the fishing organizations.

In the meantime, we need to start with Gary and Lisa to help defray their legal fees.  I would support an increased angler assessment.

I hope FLW, BASS, ABA, Angler's Choice, Puget Sound Anglers, and all clubs that hold tournaments all step up to the plate and help with these legal fees since Gary and Lisa have fought for their ability to hold tournaments and make enough money to defray costs.  This is a much bigger issue than Northwest Bass, as it affects all organizations that collect a fee in order to participate in the angling event.

I find it ironic that the State wants to regulate fishing events as commerce, yet the State severly restricts the businesses from the opportunity to engage in commerce.

this should be mandatory then sell raffle tickets for $10 a piece for boat #1 :)

Very well put Dana!  Let's make this happen, not just talk about it.

Couldn't agree more Bill and thanks for your post. Gary and Lisa will have my support as well.

I think Don and Marc hit on something very important. It seems pretty clear to me after the last couple of years, that we are going to be on the defense on one issue or another without fail. Perhaps it is time to make something happen?

It is a testament to Gary and Lisa's integrity, the truth is that those of us who fish NW Bass even occasionally and with absolutely NO success, would pay whatever membership fee they decided to levy, they have the best game in town. I am in agreement with what all have said, and will gladly pay more to play.

I think it's really important for the competing organizations to combine forces and do exactly what Don and Marc are suggesting. We need to go on offense. Guaranteed, that our opponents will use this as another tactic to try and limit our opportunities.

The season starts next week.  Let's not forget to throw in some extra money for Gary and Lisa.  It is the least we as bass anglers in this state can do!

It has already started; Larry Williams has already collected from ABA competitors at the Sammamish Tournaments on behalf of the "Stilen legal defense fund."

ciao,
Marc Marcantonio

That is great to hear Marc.  I am not fishing ABA this year, at least enough to count, so for me, Banks will be the kick off.  I sure hope between both circuits, we can take care of Gary and Lisa.
