Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

When given the choice, which species would you rather fish for? I do enjoy catching both, but I find that I'm much more passionate about hunting largemouth. Smallmouth can be a lot of fun, especially on certain techniques, but most of the time I just fish for them out of necessity. I know I should probably spend more time targeting and learning smallmouth in case I get an opportunity to compete on a circuit like Northwest Bass in the future. With my limited fishing time, however, I have a hard time staying away from the largemouth. Just curious what your guys' preference is?

isnt the whole world about going more 'green', though i find i run into more smb anglers.

anywho - browns are like the mythical creature bigfoot. ive heard and read many stories about them, but have yet to come up with factual proof myself to prove their existence.

like ive said before, if there was only a single lake in wa state that had largies - well that would be the only lake i would fish.
I love fishing for smallmouth, ever since I caught my first one back in 2007. Up to that point, it had been largemouth because it was more convenient for me. With about 5 lakes within spitting distance of my house, largemouth was the easy choice. However, since that first smallie, I have been more receptive to driving 25 miles to Seattle for a chance at smallies from the bank since I am shorebound. I too am limited in my fishing time and when I go to Union, I lose at least 40 minutes of fishing time to driving and I'm willing to lose that time if it means getting into smallies.

Bottomline, it is a tough question for me because I love to target both. Smallies fight so well, I think it is what I am after when I target them. As for Largemouth, what's not to love about them? Green or brown? Both! Slight edge to the smallie.
I prefer largemouths for the strike, and smallmouths for the fight.

ciao,

I really enjoy both! My favorite species changes for me based on the time of year however. In the spring its all about the largies for me! I love to get out there and prowl the shallows in hopes of connecting with a PIG. Nothing like catching that big fat prespawn Largemouth stuffed with eggs! During the summer months, its all about the smallmouth for me! The sheer aggressiveness of this fish during the summer months amazes me more and more every year! To me there is nothing more exciting than watching a smallmouth absolutely murder a topwater, fluke, or lipless crank only to have that followed up by 5 more fish chasing this fish to the boat trying to yank the bait out of its mouth! For the fall time, I prefer the smallmouth as well as the bigger smallies seem to school up during this time more than any other and you can sit in just a few spots and catch big fish after big fish! So I guess overall, I would say I prefer largemouth fishing in the spring and smallmouth fishing the rest of the year.
Green all the way Tag!
The fight of smallmouth on lite tackle, the hard hits of largemouth on heavy tackle. Both bring joy.
L-R-G! I do like chasing a bronzeback every once in a while though.
Oh man...Top Water and Flipping for largemouth is tough to beat, but I do enjoy the fight of the sammlie, and finding sammlies on structure in deep clear water is a fun challenge...tough call!
Green Baby!! Although I can't deny that 5 pound smallmouths chomping swimbaits is pretty awesome.
Green for me, mostly because of the size difference !
Untill i catch a smallie that i can stick my fist in it's mouth , i will always luv the hunt for lean mean green !!

that has to be some form of fish abuse dez. "my fist a fish mouth" .. lmao !! go for it lloyd, i deserve it man .
