Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hey all,

I have never fished a tournament up here other than salmon derbies, but I would really like to start trickle my way into it before I'm able to get a boat.I have fished two in arizona, but it's a totally different ball game down there. I only have a couple of rods, one I use for dropshots, and jerkbaits and another I use for flippin', carolina rigs, and football heads (when I fish them). But, I am more than willing to help pay for tackle, and gas, hell I will even throw in a lunch if you would like. Ultimately, someone down in the Puyallup, Graham, or Eatonville area would be best so I don't have to get a ride all the way to Lake Washington to fish, and we could meet up at a point suitable for both of us. Like I said, I only have a couple of rods, so if whomever takes me under their wing for the day could help in that section of things, it would be greatly appreciated. If any damage happened to rod or reel, I would fully pay for it because I know that stuff isn't cheap. I would bring as much gear as I have which mostly consists of soft plastics, I have any terminal tackle needed for a day of bass fishing. Plus, I would go to the tackle shop if needed for anything too.

So please, if you can, or if you know anyone willing to take a first timer out let me know by shooting me a PM.

Thanks,

Spencer.

Sounds like you need to join a Bass Club.  Puyallup Hawg Hunters are in that area, or you have Western Bass Club in the Renton area, we have members from all over.

Thats the thing, I have absolutely no time to make it to the meetings. Plus, I'm just looking to fish opens, only once or twice a year between runs of salmon and steelhead. To me, it doesn't totally make sense to pay the fees for the clubs when 1) won't make very many meetings and 2) I won't be fishing much at all at the club tournaments, simply because I don't have the boat to do so. I have 19ft alumaweld stryker that has a livewell that doesn't aerate.

Thanks for the suggestions though, it's appreciated.

Spencer,

Did you have any particular tourneys in mind?  I too fish salmon/steelhead with some saltwater thrown in to, seems like sometimes there are too many decisions lol.  I have some tournament experience in years past and do still like to dabble in it and could use a partner.  Have an 18.5 Pro Alaskan with a livewell put in it.  Fishes well and with the 70 horse doesn't eat alot of gas.  As far as tackle, I have plenty with some extra rod & reels if need be.

Well, I'm almost certainly fishing a tourney on tapps the 16th of this next month with the hawg hunters. I was hoping on fishing the Mickelson on the 13th of October on Lake WA. Really the only two I'd be able to make as I leave for arizona the 21st for a month, then I'm returning a leaving to Cali to visit my sister. And won't be back in town til around the 15th of August, then Golf tryouts start. And of course between all that time, it's summer runs and salmon in the sound and on the columbia.

Might be tough to find a partner without really knowing anyone. Most tournament (almost everyone) circuits are team events. So most guys have partners and back-ups in mind. Thats were joining a club and fishing with a few guys would come in handy. Jump on westernbassclub.com and start chatting with a few guys. People look for partners there too. but like I said, it will be tough in my opinion to find someone spending money on entry fees when they don't know their partner well. Good luck.

Mike Bess is looking for a new partner, again. Send me a message and I'll give you his number, he's a great guy and I'm sure you will learn a lot.
He may learn a lot, but are any of those things going to be useful?

Mike Bess sucks the joy out of fishing.
