First of all...prayers to the people of Japan.

But....I have been thinking that it is kinda strange that there has been no looting going on in Japan.

If that was in the US the looters would be all over things like white on rice.

Why is this?

The Japaneese believe in Respect and Honor.. U.S.----Not so much... Sad but True..

To be perfectly honest the US has a massive population of extremely selfish and desperate people!  Japan's population is comprised primarily of people who value the well being of each other and the country as a whole i.e. what Dan said Respectful and Honorable.  We are talking about the country we dropped 2 Atomic bombs on and has since rebuilt and yet again established itself as one of the world's elite super powers.  Not to mention their striving ahead of the US on several fronts such as operations management and technological development.  I have relatives in Japan and they are experiencing something unlike anyone in Hurricane Katrina or the 9/11 attacks.  Massive Earthquake---Tsunami---Nuclear explosions---Wide Spread Radiation Exposure.

I heard a story on NPR this morning about one of the governors in Japan making a public statement to the effect that this disaster happened because the Japanese people had become to selfish and self involved. I'm not by any means trying to say that I agree. I just thought it was a very abrasive thing for a government official to say at a time like this....

Terrible chain of events over there, they need all the support and prayers they can get.

Funny that Japan blames Japan.... wheather karma or not The U.S. would blame anyone But the U.S.

what would you do lloyd?

Yes the U.S. is such a horrible place to live I wish I lived somewhere else where we didn't have any freedoms and had to pay a rediculous amount of money to go fishing for a day.  I wish nothing but the best for the people of Japan but I would rather live here looting or not.

God is the only one who can lead them back to prosperity.

Horrible, horrible, horrible situation for those families! Watching those video's and seeing the power of water versus humaniy is humbling.

We could experience a similiar tragedy in the Kent Valley Area. If that Dam blew Ikea would be under water.... Crazy!

Doesn't the non looting have something to do with the fact that everything is wiped out due to the tsunami.  Also, with the nuclear problem, nobody is going outdoors.  I believe these both play into why there is no looting going on.

Good question.

First off... i would help who i could.

Then i would definately loot my ass off.

There has to be plenty of "opportunity".

Joel I would rather live here as well, I do however believe that as Americans we are spoiled, selfish, and suffer from lack of consequence.. I have no problem pointing my finger at myself because I am one of those people.. But I also believe that if more of us pointed the finger at ourselves America could even be better than it is already.. I pray for those in Japan. I envy thier honor and respect.. and would like to see some of that honor and respect rub off on all of us.......

Ill take it a step farther and say that the reason they have more respect and honor is because they are still a family oriented culture. There was a time in the U.S. (before my days) when our culture valued family over self. Those family values taught a certain amount of respect for one another, and also to take honor in a family name.
