Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

What PRESENTATIONS are you going to force yourself to learn, or to improve in 2011, and more importantly WHY????  WHY? WHY? WHY?  The WHY part I think being most important.  I think the rationale is the most imporant part in fisherman learning from each other.

I'm going to focus on fishing flukes because some reputable folks suggest its #1 on the river.  I want to see why they say this.  I think it will be fun to play with different ways to fish it.  Plus it seems extremely versitile.  If you know where the fish are...you should be able to get this bait to them in some fashion.

I am going to FORCE myself to Dropshot on a regular basis.  Only because I know it will help me catch limits.  I am going to dabble more in cranking and going to try and fish some larger jerkbaits like the Slender Pointer 127 on a casting rod.  Had a great year fishing the Slender Pointer 97 in 2010 so I'm gonna see what the big brother can do!  Going to try and master the art of skipping a jig... particularly the 1/2oz jigs I tie myself.  I know it can be done it's just going to take a lot of practice and the right configuration.
I want to find out a way to twist the float and fly or the fly rig to catch fish consistently. Why because I want to and I think it will work. I also want to start using smaller baits such as 2" grubs and light weight jigheads in the winter with 4 pound test, to catch the inactive fish, or fish that have grown conditioned to see 3/8 and up jigheads drug through their area. These kind of things really aren't written about, and if they are they don't really apply to the NW.

There's really not one particular technique I am going to focus on in 2011. The biggest thing I am going to do is think outside the box and get out of the normal run of baits it seems like everyone is throwing. One of those things is fishing deep crankbaits more on weedlines spring through fall. The Spro little John, Basstar big mac, DD22 and more. I feel that all too often people will lean on the typical dropshot, c-rig, football head type of program when fishing this type of application. I dabbled with this last year with decent success.

I am going to work on using cover to trigger reaction bites.  I mainly want to work on deflecting reaction baits off of wood to trigger bites.  I have lots of confidence doing this around rocks and weeds but I struggle around wood if the fish won't bite a jig or dropshot. I think learning how to use crankbaits and spinnerbaits with confidence in these situations would help my fishing a lot.
Spend more time on the water and fish more tourneys

I too want to fish more tourny's

The techniques I would like to use more and learn more about are swimbait fishing, jerkbait fishing and dropshotting.

I have used these techs. before very few times and therefore have caught very few fish with it.

Im going into this coming season with a heck of alot more knowledge and gear than this last season

and hope to learn more about fish instead of just throwing the bait in the water where I think they are!

I am going to work on Frogs and Punching, and if that doesn't work i will resort to punching frogs.  I want to work on these two presentations to increase my confidence and opportunities to catch summertime bass.

My type of guy there. HAHA

I worked on using a crankbait but would like to spend more time doing that, jerkbaits and rattle traps.

Rather than focus on any specific technique, I want to focus on not being so married to the DS and football head.  I plan on using more tubes, carolina rigs, texas rigs ect. just to be able to show the fish something a little different.

I also plan on making more of my own baits.  I have dabbled with pooring plastic, but have had mixed results.  I got a Lee's Production Pot for Christmas and plan on getting a spinnerbait mold, as well as some different jig designs to go along with my football head mold.  Having the freedom to customize jigs and spinnerbaits seems like it can be an advantage.  You can't always buy exactly what you want, and not all factory colors are right on the money.  Plus, just that little something different can make all the difference in the world.

Dear Aaron,

Ho Ho Ho, we both know,

Exactly what you're going to throw.

During the heat of summer or winter's snow,

It's a football head and dropshot show.

You're a Hawg Hunter through and through,

We know exactly what you're going to do,

From blast off until weigh-in at two,

You'll use two techniques, you know it's true.

You'll begin by dragging back and forth,

Across the P-Hole, then run up North.

No bites on the football head?  Not to worry,

The dropshot rod comes out in a hurry.

Shaking your little worm the rest of they day,

You call it fishing, I call it gay.

They should change the name of the Puyallup Club:

To "Masters of the Grub and Snub"

Happy New Year and all in fun!

Santa

Very nice!

Man Santa is grouchy these days. As a kid I don't remember him being so mean all the time.    Mrs. Claus must not be getting the job done for the big fat guy.
