Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I don't take hardly any pictures of any fish that I catch, I catch alot of good or better than average fish, for some reason I have no inkling to take pictures of any smallmouth under 5 pounds and alot of times I don't even take pictures of the ones over 5 pounds, when I release them I usually kick myself.  Most of the time if I take a picture it is because I want to send it to a buddy that is working while I am out fishing just to rub it in, this being said most of my pictures over the last 5 years have been lost due to broken cell phones! The only other time I get pictures is if somebody is with me and they want to take some pictures if not I just put the fish back. If you have noticed I never ever keep a fish in the livewell just to take a picture, I don't condone this practice but I am not going to hate on others for doing it. If I did do this it definetely has to a personal best!

When do you guys take pictures of fish? To mark a special event, like winning your first tourney, your first technique specific fish, documentation, bragging, what is it?

I have noticed some guys take picture of all kinds of fish from mediocre to very small fish? WHY? Are these picture meant to impress? I get the big fish or the tourney photo of someones largest bag, but these little sih pictures get me questioning what was going through this guys mind.

Here is a picture of my personal best smallie 8# 10oz. I caught it when I was 15 out of a row boat on 4# ande fishing line! The fish was 24 and 1/16 inches long and I cant remember the girth of the top of my head but was weighed on a Washington State certified scale.

Please tell me you still wear your hat like that?!
Of course, you know what they say when your not catching them "You weren't wearing your hat right" This is the proper way to wear your hat "RIGHT"

I usually take pics if I am catching fish on a new body of water or if it is a bigger fish for me on a body of water. I have only caught a handful of fish on lake WA and Sammamish so I take pics there because I rarely touch a fish out there. I like to have pics of fish I catch in tournaments since I have fished a total of 3 events all on lakes I had little or no experience on until recently. My dad used to be a professional photographer so if I'm with him and catch fish they usually get documented. Needless to say I have a lifetime worth of fish pics and I can't even drink yet! My boat has no live well so I don't get a double pic very often and never save a fish just for a pic. I just started bass fishing like 6 years ago and am only getting serious this year so I am still encountering a ton of firsts and they are exciting to me.
LOL Dude Hobbs thats classic! And one heck of a pig!! This could be a good topic...old school fish pics=)

Heres the fish that got it all started

Totally true man when I found that pic. I found a couple dozen more first time catches with some being tiny. First time catches are exciting thus take a picture, for the begining or just starting out angler I think all kinds of firsts happen and you should get a pic unless the fish is under 2lbs. that is kind of rediculous. Your post explains alot why your pictures seem to be of very good quality when you post them.

Dude that hat is so legit, and like P.J. was saying, ill take picks of fish on a new body of water or if im havin a bad day and only get 1 fish then ill take a pik of it, but other than that, ill take a pik if its a LM 4 lbs or bigger or SM uh idk about the same size.
Joel so true I would like to see all the guys first time fish that got it all started. This fish is the one that really got the wheels turning to get into a club and start fishing tourneys! Great Picture BTW!

So like a couple years ago?!!
I have been a freak about taking pictures for years when hunting or fishing. Just a couple of weeks ago I spent several hours looking at old pics. Whether its a trip you took with a friend years ago, a special hunting dog that now gone, or Erics butt crack in a tournament I'm glad I have taken the time to make sure I always have a camera. Those memories are awesome!
By the way, great picture Ron.
I used to take pics of anything in the 2-3 pound range. Now I usually don't take a pic of anything under four unless the fish has unusual coloration or something like that. Plus other than tournaments I usually fish alone so my pics all look the same with the fish either in the net or laying on my deck. This is a good thread I'm going to have to dig back through the albums and find my first bass pic.
Most of my pic's are old school. Not alot of digital, so most are in photo albums. I've got plenty of pic's of smallies over 6# (looks like same lake Ron) and some largies 7 and 8#, but one framed picture I see about everyday is my son holding his 10.2# largie he caught about 8 years ago. When I look back at my photo album I'm glad I've documented camping and fishing trips thru pictures. There's certainly more pictures of the kids and friends with fish than me, which to me is very fun to look thru.
