I'm having trouble with fluoro breaking on my Curado's. It's not breaking at the knot but much further down in the reel. It's tending to break with heavier crankbaits (lipless or deep diving) when making long cast or breaking when setting the hook. When I look at where it broke it's not frayed but it seems like it has a kink. Normally when throwing baits like LV-500's, you never backlash them so I can't figure out what's going on. Anybody ever had this problem?

When you put the line on, take some Reel Magic and spray it on a soft cloth.  Run the line through the cloth with a little pressure and re-spool.  This will help eliminate twist which is what is causing the kinks.  The other option is to not use flouro on running baits.

you could very well be using aging line !

Iv learned the hard way to be very selective of where i purchase my line from . Mike is 100% correct in regards to proper spooling from the start .

The only other thing i can suggest is that you try out the KVD line conditioner spray , it does makes a world of difference imo....

Great posts by Mike and Dez.  Which brand of fluoro and what lb. test are you using out of curiosity?

Segaur AbrazX 15 lb. I recovered one of the floating crankbaits with about 10 yards of line still attached. I love the way it cast and when I feel the remainder of the line it feels perfectly smooth. The line on the reel other than where it breaks is smooth also. I can't figure out what's going on.

I'm guessing your once in awhile backlashes are causing the kink - all it takes is one backlash and you've got a weak spot.  At least that has been my experience.  I use braid on all setups - spinning and baitcast.  You can then switch between leader materials (fluoro or mono) and also adjust dia./lb test of leaders as needed.  Different leader materials and lengths will give you diff. shock absorption as well as diff. properties in terms of abrasion resistance, sensitivity, floating vs. sinking, etc.

I think the albright is the best knot to use to attach leaders to braid.  Here's a video of Aaron Martens showing you how to do it.

Check the guides on the rod.

I've had flouro break off when I accidentally kinked it from a back lash a few times. Also, it only seems to happen with certain lines. I've never had any problems with sunline...

Exactly, just be careful when undoing backlashes, I have had to respool 4 times this yr bc of it, but better safe than sorry!

That's why you use braid and tie a floro leader on. It is more sensitive than mono and less visable, but if you don't like having an advantage ...

You could find another hobby thats not as expensive and shut your cryhole! lol

WOW so I am suppose to pay top $ for a line that I have to put on the spool  perfect & I can never backlash Tie a special knot. Deal with stiffness & kinks. O & the best it has a shelf life so now its like buying milk

Someone please explain to me why this is better then mono & yes I have used  many brands of fluro. I give up & refuse to pay $$$$$$$$$ for something that seems so flawed.

Agree with Phil !

 :-p

John the funny thing about this talk is that your right ! I use mono period. I have spent bank on line ! I respect your reply and remain a gentlemen!!! PROCEED!
