Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

There are lots of baits I have never caught a fish on (shocking I know). Usually it is from lack of time invested in throwing them. This year I have already caught fish on two popular baits I never used much before and am determined to catch some fish on a buzzbait (had a blowup on one once) and a frog (never even had a blowup).
Are there any baits or techniques you guys are determined to add to your arsenal this year?

Man, if buzzbaits were illegal I'd give up fishing. What about a jig Eric, I heard you aren't too lucky with jigs for LM ?
I need to use more crankbaits, I've been on hold for a few years when it comes to cranks.
I agree with you Eric. I have not spent much time with a buzzbait or a frog either. Looking forward to throwing both this year. If I am not mistaken, the big fish of the Potholes open was caught using a frog. I believe that is what the lady said who caught it.

I am also wanting to learn more about drop shotting. Not so much the technique itself, but more about what plastics to use to be most productive. Any body have any tips they would like to share, I would appreciate it.
I am really going to try and catch a fish on a lipless crankbait and a jig! Never done well on the jig might have caught 1 fish, and never caught a fish on a lipless. Frogs and Buzzbaits are two of the most exciting and nerve striking baits I love fishing them! Eric you will have a blast if you fish them in the right places when the water is at its warmest! I have had success with dropshot in the past, but am just planning on using it more frequently especially in Eastern WA.
Oh man...I love frogs! Nothing like it. I plan on dropshotting as I seldom do it and swimming a jig.
In my opinion the most consistant rattle trap bite is on the columbia and banks. You can catch them on traps now, through the fall.

Ripping a Lipless Crankbait through grass...just read a great article on it in Bass Anglers Guide and am looking forward to trying it soon!!
More more jigs, dropshot.
I guess you didn't hear Chris, I am practically an expert on jig fishing now, hee hee. I caught 4 last Friday including that 8-2. I never fished them much before this year. Same with rattle traps but I got a decent SM on one of those last week too.
You ever use buzzbaits pre-spawn?

I have never used buzzbaits pre-spawn, but I do believe they work. Water temps in the smaller lakes are in the low 60's so I'd imagine they would chase it down just fine.
Glad to hear you got those NICE fish on jigs, what a confidence boost. Jigs are #1.
Eric,
Can you give me some jig fishing tips please because I am lost when it comes to fishing them....

Swimbaits and lipped crankbaits are what I am trying to use more this year. I use jerkbaits and lipless cranks a lot but seldom throw ones with bills on them.
