Any bait Nick Barr throws.
A barn swallow- didn't see the bass eat it- but when it was caught, there was a whole swallow still in his mouth....hmm
Got a 5-2 and 6-2 last year on a bird imitation, swallow pattern too, both in the same day. The 5-2 came about a foot out of the water when it hit.

I call this the swallow pattern, fish below swallow nests, usually on the undersides of higher docks and bridges, they usually sit there waiting to pounce on a newly feathered youngin' trying to fly from the nest for the first time. Wolsky and I saw a swallow sitting on a pad last year, it was a juvenile. It skittered over the water looking like a great meal for a hungy bass.

Ish Monroe lost the Stren Series event on Oroville this year becasue a LM threw up a half pund gopher in his livewll. Lost by 4ounces.
I saw what had to have been a largemouth blow up on a bat that was flying low to the water as I was loading my boat up Saturday evening at the Steamboat Rock launch at Banks.
Here is a new one! Apparently this was one hungry bass!

Im assuming the bat wasnt in the water?

Most often than not, I believe some of the bass we have caught track the lure during its flight.
You are correct Tdot, the bat was a few inches above the water. It does seem that bass track lures through the air at times as it is amazing how quickly they will sometimes strike your lure. I have caught a couple of bass that blew up on a bait the exact second it hit the water. I think this is why sometimes engaging your reel and beginning a quick retrieve with a spinnerbait or lipless crankbait before the lure ever actually reaches the water can draw such vicious reaction strikes.

We used to fish some farm ponds as kids near Othello, WA. We hiked in on a pond and a hen pheasant sitting near the waters edge jumped up and flew over the pond to safety. It took a huge dump mid flight, which landed in the pond, and that bird feces must have looked like a good snack because a 1 1/2 pounder absolutely crushed it. That bass ate poop for breakfast.

The moral of the story is that patience is the key to avoiding a crap sandwich.
