Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I had plans to hit the bank on Thursday. When I got home it was apparent the newest addition to our family had not granted my wife any sleep time. I took over to give my wife a respite however brief. In a wonderful mood of graciousness, her suggestion for a make-up date was to hit it Friday with her and the boy in tow. Brilliant!
In the excitement to get out there I wasn't sure what to bring other some jigs so I opted for a Jackall Giron and a sebile topwater plug knowing the water I was targeting was no deeper than 4 and 5'.
The jig got the first action out of the gate. No takers so I start throwing the sebile. At what these plugs cost, I was hesitant to toss this thing with too much abandon until I became a little more comfortable with it's weight and castability. After a couple close calls at losing the bait in some timber I make a perfect cast under a low hanging tree ontop of some laydowns. A couple twitches and a decent 3lb8ozer exploded on it. Yahooooo! first bent rod of the year and it comes on a new bait.
A few more casts and I decide to pick up the jig again. The jig in ? was the one Ron Hobbs Jr. tied up for the seminar. I gave this jig a workout last weekend all over Webster's Pt with only one hit. Today would be different. 2nd cast lands in a sweet spot but my line went over a small limb on my side of the slough and while I'm trying to whip it free I feel the crunch of a bite. I swing and the fish takes off and I'm looking like someone working with a line in a snatch block trying to break my line. Luckily the fish comes in a direction allowing me to unhang my line and to the bank it comes. Beauty! Unfortunately a couple casts later I get another nice cast right into a crotch created by two trees scissoring each other and as soon as the jig hits the water it gets hit and in my excitement I rip it out of the fish's mouth and barb deep into the wood. CYA! Re-tie and cast into same spot and promptly lose another jig. I re-tie again and rest the pocket for a few minutes. Return and nail the elusive tackle snatcher bass. Nice 4lber.
The best is still to come. After catching 3 fish for 4 bites I start trying to get my jig up under some ugly spots but have no fish show any interest, so I just huck it out past where a couple logs slip into the water and slowly hop it back. It doesn't take long for a pick-up and this girl is stuck with a 4/0 poison style hook in pumpkin with a green pumpkin chunk. She goes nuts and charges into some sticks and tries to go under the log I'm standing on but I'm able to control her and get her to me. Piggggggggy man! My biggest largie to date and damn exciting for an already suprisingly successful outing. 5lb11oz. and to think, these fish are so shallow with the water only being in the low 50's. I'm able to scratch out one more fish, a decent one and after tallying up the total I'm leaving with a bag of around 18lbs for 5 in under 2 hours.
I hope Seung does well out there today and a couple pics so he knows I wasn't bullshitting him last night.
A big thanks to Mr. Hobbs for a grand looking and producing hunk of lead and silicone.
Good Luck!

Great fish man! Those are some great Largies. I think I probably saw you if you were fishing Webster last Sunday were you in an older Skeeter or Bass tracker? I was dropshotting out there on the point for about 20 minutes to no avail in my 14 ft Aluminum V. It was nice talking to ya that day at the 3 Rivers seminar. Keep it up I too am still in pursuit of my first Bass of 2009! Free time and Weather are both showing improvement :)
Very nice! It's heating up!
YES dude! That's what I'm talking bout!
Damn I didn't go as far back in there as you did and that was my 50/50 call whether I should or not - well I'll be there next time for sure!
Nice job man! That is a good day in my book.
Now that's what I'm talkin about. I hope Mr. Obama pushes this stimulus plan through! Wish I had good bank fishing like that here...
