Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have been fishing out of my duck boat for about 2 seasons now and I'm thinking about buying another boat. I'm on a pretty strick budget, but what would you guys suggest for an entry type boat? I've been looking both new and used, but wanted to ask you'all opinions. Thanks again.

Hey guys, Thanks a million for all the feedback. I can definetly see the benifits of both the aluminum boats and the glass boats. I have been asking all these questions to myself for awhile now. I now have been fishing alot of little lakes but just want to be able to fish lakes such as Sammy, Lake WA, Tapps, Alder, Riffe comfortably. I do like the durablility of the aluminum boats and that's where I've been leaning, there's just enough though for me to question. Anyway, Thanks again for the help.
If you want an aluminum buy Parnickys, its a good boat.

Justin,

The lakes you mentioned produce some big waves from both cruisers and wind, and you need to take this into consideration. Aluminum boats are not "stronger" in rough water conditions. You can make an aluminum boat stronger, but you no longer then have a bassboat. If you want a rough water boat that you can fish for bass out of, then you need a higher sided model, with a sharper bow design. These styles do not fish nearly as well as a glass bassboat since they blow sideways in the wind, and are harder to utilize many bass fishing techniques from like pitching and flipping.

My advice is to not be in a rush, but in the meantime fish out of many styles as you can and think you might like to buy. Join a bass club so you will have a pool of people with various boats you can experience. There are a ton of boats available in almost every price range; the hardest part for you will be in determining what style is both functional and within your budget.

ciao,
Marc

Just wanna say all points are very good,My first boat was a Champion 17'6 one owner good deal on it,had to do some upgrades, new electronics which if you go used some of the guys have a couple in there garage that they haven't put on e-bay yet and a new trolling motor because it was only 55thrust my choice to upgrade that, when my first tourney was a raining dog and the wind was about 30 mph,if you're going to be in tournments then you're gonna be on some big water with some serious wind and if you can get your hands on a nice 20 footer I think you will be well on your way, you'll have plenty of room for all your gear your girl your dog etc. Also a 20 footer fits well into the garage without tearing it up,as far as livewells lights etc.you will have to take the boat on the water and turn all of those things on.Good luck on your prize !!!!!
jeff priester has my old 1998 Ranger R82 which would be a perfect boat for you. and it was well kept by me as well as the guy that bought it from me in 2004. get on Nixon's Marine site and take a look at it. Also Jeff has a red bass Tracker tourney that is very nice. maybe a little pricy but decked out at 15 g but it is very new.

I have a truck that can tow so thats not an issue, and I fish all kinds of big and small lakes and some tourneys. Looking for some that can do a little of everything. What advice would you give to someone possible looking at something like a used 1991 Ranger or a newer bass tracker... which would you go with and why ?
That red Tracker at Nixons was my tournament partners boat before he bought his new Triton. That is one sweet little aluminum. It is very well taken care of and is fully decked out. Great boat for sure.

Hey Dan its funny you said that, I emailed him yestarday about your old boat. I'm interested but I think the most I could afford right now is around $10, 000. With the economy being where it is how low do you think he would go? Also I have a trade-in, the boat isnt worth much, but its got a nice 90hp Merc. Do you think he would consider that as a trade-in?

I own a 04 tracker pt175 with a 50 and for small lakes and club tournies it works just fine. I've also had it in some of the roughest water this state can dish out and with the exception of one day at vantage i have never felt scared. with that said you WILL not stay any hint of dry while in one and even though they have the newer "smooth ride" hull on them it can beat you to death. I dont want to steer you away from them because they offer a great entry level boat, and like others have said they are perfect for the small lakes. my advice is if you buy one upgrade everything to do with actually fishing on them IE. trolling motor, electronics, batteries. PM me if you have any further questions on them and i'll answer what i know.

good luck

Troy

I know a guy who has a 96 Skeeter with a 200 on it thats in great condition which is selling for $15K including all his rods & tackle and two new color graphs.

That Tracker was mine and I spent several thousand in electronic upgrades and converting to a larger 24 Volt tm. I bought it new and only used it for one year. It is not cheap, but is a super clean problem free boat. As some of the guys have mentioned that is a questionable size in big water. I took mine out in it all the time, but there were a lot of pucker up moments and my 20' Triton is definitely more suited for big water. Jeff Priester will take care of you and find you a boat that fits, I would give him a call.
