Ken Day basically talked me into fishing their qualifiers. I can only speak to my experiences fishing with the Federation Nation and how thoroughly impressed I was with the way I was treated. Others may be able to add their experiences with TBF once they get to the divisional or national competitions. Obviously FLW is going through a rough spot right now, so who knows how that may affect things.
Other than gaining the experiences that come with being paired with somebody else for a day of fishing, trying to figure out the fish together, the Fed. Nation offers a path to fish the Classic - while it's not easy it is possible.

I know I have a lot to learn and I am willing to put in the effort it takes. I have busted my butt to get where I am now. I know it will take paying some dues for a while. I fished the BASS Fed Nation qualifiers in 2007 and had a great time. Being paired with a different partner each day causes you to learn a great deal in a short amount of time.
I was fortunate enough to qualify for the state team and fish the Western Divisional last May and then qualify to represent the state of Washington at the National Championship. The Washington State Federation paid my airfare (wife too)to fly back to Florida to compete in the BASS Fed Nation Championships. BASS paid for my hotel room, and provided me with a brand new Skeeter to fish out of for the Championship. Gas, lunch, ice were provided each day -3 days of practice and 3 days of competition. I didn't have to launch or pull the boat out of the water - they handled all of that. Any issues with the boat, electronics, or trolling motor were handled by service crews. BASS provided several first rate meals in the evening for me and my wife. It got to the point were I felt a little guilty, because all I was doing was going fishing for 6 days. I had the experience of a lifetime for next to nothing out of my pocket.

I'm currently not affiliated with any club but I am very interested in spending next year as a non-boater and learning more from the guys in the BASS and FLW qualifiers. What steps do I need to take to make that happen?

TBF or BASS Fed are both great choices. ABA is okay at best. NWB will give you the chills at your first blast-off and pay your month's salary (or more) if you win a tournament. You pick.

Joel, find a club in your area, not sure how far north you live. Northend bass club and Kent Castmasters are FLW clubs as well as several others a little farther south, Hawghunters, Evergreen etc. You need to decide if the club route is something you want to commit to, if it is find a club and enjoy it as well as qualify to fish for a chance at the FLW cup, it is a long road to get there but it's the only way. I am not sure if Borderline Bassin contenders is an FLW club or not, it would be good to have a club up north involved.

Borderline is a WSBF associate member.
