MINNEAPOLIS — FLW Outdoors announced Wednesday that Charlie Evans has stepped down as president and CEO. The announcement comes following a highly successful Forrest Wood Cup in Duluth, Ga., where Walmart announced a new long-term title sponsorship agreement and FLW Outdoors Chairman Irwin L. Jacobs introduced T. Boone Pickens as a new equity partner in the company.

“This is the start of a new beginning at FLW Outdoors – a resurrection,” Evans said. “It has been a difficult time for the entire industry over the last 18 to 24 months, but those of us closest to the sport could always see the light at the end of the tunnel. Now we are finally out of the tunnel and looking at the brightest future our sport has ever seen. It’s time for fresh leadership, and I fully understand that.”

Jacobs will continue to serve as chairman, but will add chief executive officer to his title. Trisha Blake was promoted to president of FLW Outdoors Marketing Division, and Kathy Fennel was promoted to president of FLW Outdoors Operations Division.

Jacobs stated, “We thank Charlie for his dedication, loyalty and hard work over the course of his career at FLW Outdoors. He should be proud of his contributions and the impact he has had on this company.”

Evans joined FLW Outdoors as a tournament director in 1982 and was promoted to head of tournament operations in 1984. He assumed the chief operating officer role in 1996 and was promoted to president and CEO in 2004.

“I am honored to have served FLW Outdoors and our anglers all these years,” Evans said. “I owe a debt of gratitude to Mike Whitaker, the founder of Operation Bass, and Irwin Jacobs, the founder and Chairman of FLW Outdoors, for believing in me and giving me the opportunities I’ve so thoroughly enjoyed. This has been a dream job, and I have the greatest confidence in the company’s leadership, particularly Kathy Fennel, who has a passion and expertise that is second to none. The employees and anglers at FLW Outdoors are my family, and they are the greatest family in the whole world.”

Guess Jr. can now change his name back to Ron!

No kidding Marc. Thats what that idiot gets for calling Ron Roy...
It all sounds like good news to me, including T. Boone Pickens money and WalMart's money and long term contract.

ciao,
Marc

Good riddance to the phony prick.
Charlie always seemed nice enough to me, but hopefully this means FLW will put more attention in the PNW. Is there an actuall reason ur calling him phony?

Sounds like a pretty bright future...
I've allways liked his passion! However, when he called Ron Roy, I wanted to jump threw the computer, and strangle him. How do you do that to a guy in the biggest moment of his life???
Roy is short for Roynald. We all need to thanks Charlie for letting the cat out the bag !

Good, that guy was annoying.
Charlie weighed more bass on stage than any other human on Earth! I was one when he started with FLW.

I've talked with him many times and he's giving some great advice and seemed like he always took time to talk to people.

In the bass tournament scene you always here the stories of what he has done for bass fishing and the opportunities he has contributed to allowing people like us to compete. He'll be missed IMHO.

I still think Chris Jones was the best Host of FLW ever!

AGREED, I would like to see Chris Jones back too... he was the best weighmaster I have ever heard or seen, always kept the weigh in alive.

I think Charlie worked very hard at his job, calling me Roy on stage at the Cup was not the 1st time, he called me Roy on a couple other occassions as well no biggie, its really not worth getting myself all worked up over, lets face it I was there! Regardless of what happened or what I was called.
