Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

I have used Lamiglass and Loomis which are both great (loomis on the better side of that i think) but currently use and have been using Fetha Styx for over 5 years now. Let me tell ya they have come along way, I got to help with design and feel, so I got to be there for all the good and bad. The rods are lighter then ever and look great. I have just got a few of the new rods for this year, so I have not really had a chance to fish them but they feel and look great and have a very Loomis feel to them. Any ways just wanted to see who uses what or if you use several diffrent rods.

The only rod Im really partial to is my Okuma 7'6" Swimabit special. It is just a quality rod for a cheap price. Other than that one I dont really have a favorite.
This one is an easy pick for me. G loomis all the way! I have never picked up another brand of rod and said that it feels better in my hands than my Loomis. I have over 15 Loomis rods and every single one is amazing. From the GLX flippin stick to the Mossy dropshot rod, they are all great rods. Also gotta point out that I am really really hard on my gear and have yet to break or damage one. If you havent tried the crankin rods from Loomis your missing out. I wouldn't fish with any other rod!
Ok, I have 1 loomis. Love it. 3 Rogue's very nice rods, but the customer service from the factory is so so. Was sponsored by them for the last year and a half. The blank is very nice, grip and guides aren't up to snuff. Currently sponsored by Powell. I have 5 of them right now. I feel that for the $ you can't get a nicer rod. Are they better rods out there, yes. But for 139.00 a rod, you can't beat the Powell. Good feel, great backbone, model for every style, great handle and guides. Very nice owner of the company, who answers the phone when you call down there with a questions or problem.

I have mostly Rogue and Kistler with a few of the others scattered around. I personally really like the Rogue blanks but agree with mark on the rest of the components. They also don't seem to be supporting their bass fisherman right now having cut down their national pro staff to less than a handful of pros. (Used to be a retailer for them) It is a shame because they are an awesome blank.

That said I've yet to hold a rod that can match the Kistler LTX, but at 350-400 bucks a pop it hurts... it hurts alot!

I think all of the major manufacturers make good rods, it just comes back to what makes you confident.

With me it's an UGLY STICK!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with Jon, the fact that everyone compares themselves to Loomis must mean something.

I've got G-Loomis rods across the board, specifically the GLX rods when available. The GLX graphite, paired with the titanium guides is a the lightest, most sensitive rod I've ever held. Sure they are expensive, but if your buying a boat, all that gas, oil, lures, reels, etc... why cheap out on the rod. I am a big believer of if your going to do it, do it right.
I am partial to the Bass Pro Shops Bionic Blade. It’s a great Rod that has never let me down, but for a Flip Stick I would have to say St. Croix all the way.
Loomis by far over all the other brands. Loomis doesn't have to remove cork on the handles to make them light they just are. Hey Richie you must have never tried a loomis glx flipping stick, they are the best on the market, PERIOD. As a matter of fact I know a guy (won't mention any names) that is sponsored by a reputable rod company but still uses the GLX. I am telling you I just get all excited talking about it. It Is That GOOD. Oh Jon you haven't even tried their new GLX Spinnerbait rod, I used one down at Falcon Lake my god accurate casting and probably could pull a plow horse backwards!
Loomis has a rod for anything and everything they are the best.

LOOMIS TILL I DIE!!!
Shawn I agree Fish what makes you the most comfortable, I had one thing about the kistler, I Had a pro- staff guy in the back of my boat, he was from Alabama, he broke there highest end pitching stick trying to swing a 3 pound fish. He told me it was like the 7th or 8th he broke that year, then when I was watching a t.vv. show with Scott Martin I watched him brake the same exact rod. Have you had this problem?

The one thing I heard as well was that the warranty dept. there was phenomonal! They treat there customers right, that is always important with these high end rods.

Guess i will have to give that GLX Pitching Rod a shot.
Exactly right. I used to think it didn't make that much difference. Now I only use Loomis.

Since EVERY rod manufacturer compares themselves to G. Loomis, I think that says it all. They are superior to any of the other brands I have tried. Some models are more superior than others, but to start with, there isn't a rod out there that can compare with application specific models.

Case in point, the "Cranking Sticks" are incredible, and will truly improve your percentage in landing the ones you hook.

The spinnerbait rods, have a nice soft tip for casting accuracy and distance, but the backbone to drive home the big hooks that come on spinnerbaits.

The Senko rods, are great for multiple applications and deep water.

I could go on and on, but you really can't go wrong with any of them, and remember, all rod manufacturers start with the line, "They are just as good as a LOOMIS!"
I have mostly Kistler rods now and a few Rogue's left over. Like Mark and Shawn, I was on their staff for the last year and a half, but they decided to take the company in a different direction which doesn't include bass fisherman. I really feel that was the wrong move because their blanks are awesome. Their customer service is horrible like Mark said however. I really like the Kistler rods. The LTX flippin stick is phenomenal to hold. I swear it feels like it weighs 1 oz! I have heard about the breakage issues with them like Ron mentioned, but have yet to experience it first hand. If anyone will break a rod, it is me, just ask Shawn. LOL! Their Magnesium series are excellent rods for the price. I especially like their crankin sticks and swim jig rod in that line up. Only time will tell about their durability.
I'm the kind of guy that buys whats on sale, or what he wins in a raffle haha. But for me, Loomis hands down. I have Loomis, Quantum, Lamiglas, 1 Okuma, and 2 Ordella's that I LOVE. Its a shame that Ordella went out of business, their dropshot rod is awesome. I've had a few Loomis break on me, but thats what the great warranty is for. You have to pay some money to get a replacement, but it always comes fast and when the rods cost what they cost, its not bad. I have never tryed Kistler but I've heard good things.

I think the rod I've caught the most fish on is either a GL2 6'6 spinning or my DSR drop shot rod, so I have a Loomis in my hand quite often.
