Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

We held the WAFISH tournament on Lake Washington on saturday. The morning started with sub 30 degree weather and a couple of close calls on the icy roads, but everyone made it there safe. 28 teams came out to fish the tournament, which was run like most other tournaments with the exception of a couple of mystery pots; the first being the "weird fish weight" which was the biggest fish weighed-in that was not a bass, the other was a mystery weight of 2.73lbs for the number of members in the bass fishing group before the tournament (273).

Fishing was tough with the very cold weather. A total of 30 bass, 5 trout, 2 squawfish and 1 perch were weighed in. The top 5 weights for bass were as follows:
1st place: 5 fish-11.26lbs Gabe Lowe/Tom Librande
2nd place: 3 fish-9.38lbs Mark Maderos/Rob Maglio
3rd place: 3 fish-8.84lbs Henry Dover/ Jim MacDonald
4th place: 4 fish-8.04lbs Marc Marcantonio/Ron Hobbs Jr
5th place: 3 fish-7.87lbs Dez Ruffin/Phil Mehrdens

The big fish prize went to PJ Koshi for his 4.54lb monster smallmouth.

The top "Weird Fish" was awarded to Dave Sexton and Ron Langley for thier 3.57lb Squawfish.

The mystery weight was awarded to Willie Parsons and Pete Fisher with 1 fish weighing 2.54lbs.

The smallest weight was weighed in by Rodney Heupel and Jeff Iacchei for their perch weighing .35lbs.

After the tournament we had an awesome raffle, with a number of wafish members showing up who weren't able to come to the tournament. We probably had close to 100 people at the raffle. Congratulations to Ron Hobbs for winning the hawaii vacation!

Thank you again to all who came, helped setup/takedown, and especially to all of our sponsors who made the tournament and raffle a huge success. I look forward to doing it again next year bigger and better! The date is to be determined, but I am open to suggestions.

Here are a few pictures of the event. Much more to come soon thanks to Chad Simon and his wife.

Thanks Jordan, Chad, Nick... everyone who helped put this together and all the sponsors! This was my first tournament experience and I had a blast! Thanks for taking me out Shawn it was a pleasure I had a lot of fun! It was nice to meet some more people from the site and do some fishing in the freezing ass cold. Congrats to the top finishers, the fishing was SLOW you guys are amazing.
Well done Jordan and the gang. You ran a great tourney and team Pork and Cheese had alot of fun. ( Except for the raffle where I swear I seen Chris R throw our raffle tickets into the trash :-)

Just kidding, we didn't win anything in that awesome raffle but managed 2 good smallies and 1 decent fish to end up in 2nd. I missed the possible winning fish when it did a "drive by" attack on my drop shot bait. Man all we needed was one more.
We caught ours on heavy lead heads with grubs and tubes in 39 to 41ft. Nothing special other than we covered 11 spots in our time on the water. Some for an hour or so, others no more than 5 to 10 casts.

Great job to all that participated, can't wait for next year's.

Mark
We too had a blast. I knew we needed just one more fish to win, and we just couldn't get it in the boat. The same could be said for everyone in the top six. We caught two fish in the first ten minutes from 50', and one more around 11am in 26'. All fish were caught on 1oz football heads. Like Mark and Rob, we also hit a lot of water trying to get active fish. Thanks Jordan for putting this event on, our sponsors for the raffle items, and the numerous others who helped out. Thank you Jordan for putting this event together. I'll certainly give it a shot next time.
It was very cool to meet and bs with some folks. Nice job everyone....that was some
cold air out there and the results were much better than I would expect in those conditions.
Jordan, it was fun to make the list. Jeff and I had a good time. Very well run!!! Thank you for putting this event on, well done.
Very well done Jordan, thank you and everyone that put forth the effort to make it a great day. I especially want to thank whoever ordered the weather, compared to today, Sunday, it was balmy out there on tournament day.
Hey Sparks, yes, work does suck sometimes. I was off at 10am,went home...fell asleep and arrived at the tourney around 1pm.

That was a great time Jordan, well done! It was cool meeting the guys from the site in person, looking forward to next years tourney. Fishing was tough for Dave P and I. For those of you guys who caught fish I have the utmost respect! We fished hard all day draggin football heads and fishing dropshot in 25-50ft all the way around Mercer Island. Just couldnt find the active fish. Thank God for that sun!!! That would have been a miserable day of fishing if that fog socked us in all day!!
I totally wish I would have been able to make it, but they way my schedule worked out, there was no way I was going to get there.

Looks like everyone had a great time!!! Congrats to the top finishers, must have been one heck of a chilly day.

Looking forward to fishing next years tournament
I had a blast as well on Saturday! I convinced myself to dress warm enough for once and I went all day without getting cold somehow. I considered that a victory in itself! Thanks Jordan, Chad, everyone else that helped put this on, all of the donating sponsors, and of course everyone who braved the elements to either fish or come watch the weigh in!!! I thought the tournament was run very smoothly and had an unbelievable turnout for the conditions! Even without catching any fish, it was great getting out on the water again and getting to meet more great people from this site!
Big Props to the winners and to anyone that caught fish!! As Joel said, we dragged football heads and dropshotted 25-50 feet of water on just about every point and rockpile through the East Channel, North end of Mercer, and a couple humps and points on the West side of Mercer. We sure couldn't seem to either find fish, present the bait to them correctly, or get the timing down of when we fished each area. I even tried a finesse worm on a spot remover jig for a while and couldn't get anything to touch that.
I love the picture of the frost covered Tracker as we drove by in the morning Jordan! I will be hanging on to that one for a while!
I just realized I forgot to thank Ron Hobbs Jr. for the sweatshirt donations. I swear it wasn't on purpose.

Good job guys and a special thanks to Jordan for getting this thing off the ground. I had planned on fishing it with Henry but Helac asked me if I wanted to work Saturday. Couldn't pass it up double time.

I have been playing around with some stuff in our machine shop due to the lack of work. This is a trolling motor nut for a Motorguide. We also made an "Iron Cross". Check it out and please feel free to give feedback.
