Washington Fishing

The Online Source for Washington Fishing Information

Hi Everyone,

Borderline Bassin Contenders will be holding their annual Lake Whatcom Fall Open on Saturday, October 23rd.  Registration will be at 6:15 AM with a drivers meeting shortly after.  We will draw boat numbers once everyone has been registered and blast off at safe light.  Weigh in will be at 3 PM.  Entry fee is $100 per team and $20 big fish option.  If you wish, you can email me your completed entry forms at dparnicky@gmail.com.  It is perfectly acceptable and preferred however to hand in registration forms on tournament morning. I have attached a copy of the registration form as well as tournament rules to this post.  Feel free to contact me on here if you have any questions or concerns.  I hope to see you there!  It should be a fun day on a great lake!

**Note**  I have tested our club's scale on weights and it is ACCURATE.  In order to speed up the weigh in process, each team is entitled to only ONE re-weigh.  If you ask for a re-weigh, I encourage that you deem it necessary as you will be forced to take the second weight regardless of whether it is higher or lower than your original weight.  This is the only way to keep things moving along and orderly at weigh in.  I don't want to hear any whining! :)

David P. will win if he leaves the sissy stick/crutch at home and goes big. Just be confident in what Tag "Jedi Master" has told you and you will be fine. 3" baits are not going to win on Whatcom in the fall. And yes it will take over 20 lbs.

We will see Jordan! Just because I haven't been catching the biggest fish lately doesn't mean I don't have a gameplan ;) Whether it's a good one or not? I guess I will find out tomorrow! The one thing I can promise you is that I am going to try as hard as I possibly can all day to weigh the 5 biggest fish I can! There will be no lack of effort in my boat! The only time my line will be out of the water is when I am reeling in to make another cast or running to another spot.

I don't really care where I finish, just as long as I beat Parnicky. No particular reason really, I'd just like to beat him since he lives up there. Also, in case you guys don't know, I am a master of the chuck and wind technique, sometimes without any rhyme or reason just throw that s*** out and reel it in. Doesn't really matter what it is, swimbait, footbally head, jig, c-rig, just as long as it aint the fairy wand (dez). This may play right into my specialty. Bring it...

Good thing I throw 4" baits on the sissy stick..haha! j/k. I actually have a plan for when to incorperate the sissy stick. It is only a minor portion of the game plan but there a couple situations I want to use it in.

Game plan is a term I have been using all week to give myself the false sense of confidence needed to believe I will be able to bring in 5 big fish tomorrow. As far as being scared, I am just trying to focus on the me vs. the fish mentality and block everything else out.

I think there will be a lot of 15 pound bags and it will take 18 to win unless that boat coming up from Evergreen has Hobbs and Watson in it;)
We need a report :-)
Jordan and Tony won it with 13 and change. The next two teams had 12.XX. Joel and I had just under 9lbs we had a few come unbuttoned and one giant we never even saw broke off. I enjoyed this tournament a lot and am going to be sure to fish it again next year!

The tournament ran very smoothly (other than me launching people before what most would consider safe light...haha) and I had a blast fishing and running it! Thanks again to everyone that made it out! Big congrats to Jordan Doucet and Tony Lofranco! It seemed to be a very tough day to find quality fish and they did it better than anybody else. Also, congrats to Brandon Thomas and Bill Ducker for getting 2nd and Fred VanderWerff and Ry Carlton for getting 3rd. Big fish went to Phil Johnson with a beautiful 4.47 lb smallmouth! Robert and I caught a ton of fish in 35 feet of water on dropshots, carolina rigged 6" lizards and football jigs but we couldn't buy a big bite to save our lives! I hope everyone that made it out enjoyed themselves and I hope to see you all on opening day in April for the Spring Open!

Here are the complete results:

1) Jordan Doucet/Tony Lofranco 5 fish 13.22lbs. big fish: 4.32 lbs
2) Brandon Thomas/Bill Ducker 5 fish 12.73 lbs. big fish: 3.71 lbs
3) Fred Vanderwerff/Ry Carlton 5 fish 12.34 lbs. big fish: 3.81 lbs.
4) Phil Johnson 5 fish 12.07 lbs. big fish: 4.47 lbs.
5) David Parnicky/Robert Mann 5 fish 10.68 lbs. big fish: 3.41 lbs.
6) Dan Wheeler/Emannuel Villarreal 4 fish 9.82 lbs. big fish: 4.07 lbs.
7) Willie Parsons/Jared Davis 5 fish 9.73 lbs. Big fish: 3.00 lbs.
8) Eric Mccarthy/Travis Bogart 5 fish 9.47 lbs. Big fish: 3.02 lbs.
9) Joel Alinen/P.J Koshi 5 fish 8.65 lbs. Big fish: 2.65 lbs.
10) Nick Berto/Bill Smith 3 fish 6.68 lbs. Big fish: 4.23 lbs.
Congratulations on the victory, Tony and Jordan. Nice job to Brandon and Bill as well. Can always count on the B&B Team to be at the top, even when the bite is super tough.
David thanks for putting this thing on great job. Congratulations to Jordan and Tony. I will be there for the spring open for sure. Tag thanks for all the info and help on this lake earlier this year.
You are very welcome, Eric. Please contact me anytime with questions. Better sooner than later before I forget everything.

Congrats to Jordan and Tony and those who did well! Nice big fish Phil! And for Dave for running the event nice and smooth (and showing up on time lol)! It was nice chatting with most of you in the morning.

Bill and I had fun even though we did horrible; at least the weather was nice! (: We found a good bite shallow a week or so ago and caught them really good. We also went down south and did really good in pre-fish. When the tournament came around, we couldn’t find any of our shallow fish (except for lots of 10 inchers, cutthroat and sculpin!), and tried to force it too much and didn’t go deeper till late, where we picked up a few fish with a little time left but by then the bite had gone slow to dead. We should have known better and moved off deeper quicker but that’s the way it goes!

Again, congrats to the top finishers! Looking forward to the Spring Open (:
