Lost my trolling motor at 11:30 last Saturday, so I'm looking to replace them. What are you liking for brand names? My last several pair have been Trojans. Any other  recommendations out there.

thx,

John

Our setup came with two sealed, no-maintenance AC Delco batteries and they've been very good to us.  I checked last year and they go for about $110/each.

I just bought my boat last summer at Nixon's Marine and they were nice enough to give me 2 new Interstates.  I ran them hard last summer and they held up strong.  This winter I have been plugging them in every week or so and they have always gone right to green very quickly.  I'm pleased thus far.

I've always used Interstates with no issues. This will be the fourth year I have had mine. Just have to and a little water every now and then, usually after a few ruff boat rides.

I like to stick to name brands.

I always use Trojans.

The lady seems to like them too.

Check with Wes Wezenberg.  He bought Brent Ehrlers boat that he ran on tour in 2009.  I don't remember what brand they are but his batteries are awesome.  I guess there are quite a few top level pro's (sponsored by battery companies) who install these batteries in their boats and pay for them on their own.

Thanks guys for your responses. Sounds like alot of Interstate out there.

Thanks Chris. I'm going to check that out!

I will talk with Wes tonight and find out what brand they are.

It really comes down to what your needs are and how much you want to spend.  Bet you've heard that before!  I've run numerous different brands.  Personally, I think the Trojans are overrated as I've had problems with them and have known others who have had numerous issues with them.  IMO, Interstates are just "okay".  I had pretty good success with Delco Voyagers.  It's hard to find batteries that have the reserve capacity minutes needed for all the stuff you run on them and the CCA needed for bigger engines.

Right now I have Deka's.  I think they are the best I have ever used thus far.  I'm running the Deka Sea Mates which are an AGM battery.  These are spendy but have a great reputation.

Whatever you do, get the biggest ones you can fit in your compartment.

I bought walmart batteries, and when I think they aren't performing properly I take them in for warranty and they give me new ones no questions asked. They are cheaper like $75. They don't test them or anything. I replaced them every year for free when I had my other boat.

I was waiting for somebody to bring up the walmart batteries. I went that route too for the same finacial reasons as stated by Ron. In time it became too much of a hassel and they just didn't perform at all for me after a short time. I now have Interstates and won't go with wally world batteries again.

He is sponsored by Optima so I would imagine he has blue tops, great products
